Oof, wait till next week when Colin and Chris talk about how Concord had a peak of 697 players and currently 263 players as I type this. Just to put that into perspective, Half-Life Alyx (which requires a VR headset), Left 4 Dead 1 (which released in 2008), and both modern Deus Ex games - Human Revolution and Mankind Divided - have more players than Concord on Steam. Also, Redfall, Saint's Row (2023), Skull and Bones, and Suicide Squad - all considered massive failures - had many thousands more players on launch than Concord.

Not a correction, but important to remember that while the Saints Row reboot is an abject failure that shut the studio down, it didn’t launch on Steam, so the launch concurrents you’re looking at are from August 2023 when everybody knew the game sucked. Fuck that game though.

Black Myth Wukong: there are a lot of bosses and mini bosses. First chapter is quite linear. Second chapter is much more open with a lot of secrets and winding paths (easy to get lost). Third chapter is REALLY big in my opinion so just calling it a boss rush is doing it a disservice. There’s plenty to explore and find post chapter one. I’m really enjoying it despite some weird quirks it has, and it definitely gets more difficult as it goes on. Which some may like, and some may not (I like the difficulty). Enjoy!

There is no such thing as a Jets "bandwagon" 8 years to work on Concord actually makes perfect sense when you look at the kind of game it is. 2016 was right around the time of Overwatch, the rise of the hero shooter and sort of the peak of the MCU. Seems like another game that fell victim to chasing trends only to end up releasing well after those trends fizzled out.

The contents of Zau are irrelevant to the goal of the movement, which is to keep these weirdo activists out of games. This would be crystal clear to anyone who's been paying attention to the discussions on X. The fact that Colin refuses to admit or even acknowledge this demonstrates his bias toward taking the industry's side on most issues. If you pay attention, he does it frequently. Regarding the DEI conversation, we as gamers have been pushed around for far too long. I don’t have any problems with gay, lesbian or transgender people, in fact some of my friends are LGBT. I don’t have any problems with black, hispanic or asian people. I do have a problem when games companies shove their political ideologies into video games I consume, because we have guy movies and girl movies… nobody was pissed when Scarface and Goodfellas didn’t have “diversity” and “inclusivity”, these were both respectful to their own culture… nobody was pissed when there was no big ‘action set piece’ in the barbie movie, it was for girls. Instead of shoving “woke” ideologies in established franchises that are guaranteed to sell, how about they create new franchises specifically for those underrepresented minorities and actually take creative risks? Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 didn’t need that all forced “wokeness”, neither did God of War Ragnarok, Destiny 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, The Last of Us Part II or Horizon Forbidden West. Now, if these game companies try to do anything like this again, we’ll firmly reject it. We won’t even give it any attention, it simply does not exist. Concord and Dustborn were just the beginning, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is next.

Saying that a game has "DEI" in it might be the wrong term. I think Colin means forced DEI aspects that could potentially harm a product... DEI in itself is not necessarily negative. It's when it's not handled correctly, such as forcing more inclusive characteristics. Including DEI or being woke is normally a positive thing in most eyes, but Sweetbaby or other groups have ruined it in certain instances.

The real problem for Xbox players is the possibility of more third party games missing the platform. If they are going full or partial third party, maybe they should make the next Xbox a PC. Developers might not be able to justify investing in a xbox version when the installbase deminishes (if that happens). But they can surely justify a tailor made Xbox mode, where a PC game automatically starts with those settings enabled. This would allow Xbox consoles to continue as an option and as an entry point for GamePass.

I think the obvious and best thing Microsoft can do is simply become the Netflix of video games. They don't need to sell consoles anymore... Make all of their games timed gamepass exclusive... Microsoft releasing most of their big titles on PS5 six months to a year after they hit Xbox and Gamepass day 1 seems like a pretty good compromise on their end, as it basically gives their fans some benefit to staying in the ecosystem. It’s not unlike the compromise Playstation fans seem likely to face in the future, as more and more Sony exclusives head to PC about a year later. Do you buy the platform that allows you to get the game immediately, or are you content to wait and get it on the platform you primarily play on?

Exactly. Speaking as an Xbox fan, I think it's a pretty good compromise. I will say I thought it would be a year before Indie went to PS5 rather than 5-6 months, but more people having access to a game doesn't bother me. I have a PS5 as well, but I have no plans to get rid of my Xbox to just have a PS5 even if all Xbox games go to PS. I have a huge library/lots of Achievements on Xbox, prefer the controller, and as a fan of their games, get alot of value from getting their first party titles on GP, and wouldn't want to wait 6 months or even alot longer to get their ports. I can see why alot of people wouldn't feel the same, and will just go PS5/PC, but I think it's clear most of those people have already done so. Xbox will keep it's position of selling less consoles, but still a decent amount, just half as much as Sony's wildly successful PS5, however as a major publisher Xbox probably prefers the more stable install base they get from hedging their bets across console and PC, where they then don't get huge drop offs in potential buyers for their games at the start of each generation (which is a big part of why games are staying Cross Gen for so long now)

Your literal parents are italian, it makes sense that you feel italian because you have been exposed to actual Italian people. He hasn't. His heritage is diluted by generations of people being born in the USA. Also, americans have this weird thing were they need to identify as something else, like Italian American, African American, Jewish American. Dude, if you were born in the us, schooled, all your friends are there... unless you travel every year back to your country of origin or something like that... you're no longer from that country, you're american.

3:06:55 I don't think xbox hardware will die until gamepass dies. I would assume at least half of the gamepass subscribers are at xbox. If having dedicated hardware is bringing around 15 million subscribers, in my opinion they will think that it worth to keep hardware around. If you want massive number of subscribers you need to keep every single channel open. But future of gamepass is not very bright. People are saying "ohh everything will be subscription, cloud gaming in the future". People have already done with subscription services because of oversaturation of streaming services. They don't want additional one. You have gym membership, netflix, amazon prime, subscription over subscription. Just no to new one.

Colin has a great insight into the games industry and is right about many topics but he is so flagrantly blind when it comes to very specific political Agendas that have been shoved into Video games. Sweet baby Inc. is a DEI consultancy program. Their involvement with any game means that they had injected some form of DEI into it. Whether you see it or not, that is literally the job that they are hired to do Sometimes it’s more overt and others times it may be more subtle, but it’s there.

No it isn't. I recently played through Borderlands 1 remastered. Skill tree leaves a bit to be desired, but just a bit. In B3, the playable characters are just avatars, while the player can pick anyone and fulfill any playlist without much thought and overpowered skill trees. In B1, if you pick Brick, you HAVE to play as a Berserker.

The people saying Black Myth Wukong isn’t that hard haven’t made it past Chapter 2. In some instances it’s harder than any Souls game I’ve ever played. There are giant difficulty spikes.. You’ll go for a while without a problem and then you’ll run into an area or a boss that is a mountain that you have to climb. The skill tree leveling is nice but the difficulty balance almost negates many of your upgrades as the game doesn’t feel much easier even after upgrading tons of skills and my health, stamina, etc. Enemies still take you for a huge chunk of your health, which makes you feel like you’re not really progressing even though you are getting plenty of upgrades. Really enjoying the game so far, I do have some gripes with it but overall it’s a great game.. But it is very difficult at times, with brief respites in between..

I don't think Xbox hardware is going anywhere. They'll probably treat Xbox games like windows. Windows is available on wide range of hardware but also on their own hardware ( Surface). I think talk for the Xbox platform going away is a bit premature. In my opinion industry would be worst for it. Also I'm probably opposite and slowly migrating to PC as the place I will purchase my PS5 games moving forward. I think all consumers are different and will see what happens.

Thanks for reading my write in! Launch day steam numbers for Concord are not promising. Will be up to the community to keep the game going with such a low player count, but impossible to do so with no private games, and doesn’t appeal to competitive players with no ranked. Eiyuden Chronicles is great, Colin is going to love it. One of my favorite games of 2024. I was such a big fan of Suikoden, I own every Suikoden game, so this was such a pleasant surprise it turned out as well as it did. As for Borderlands, my experience with the series is an odd one. Since Borderlands 2, after I finish every Borderlands game I feel so tired of it and I say to myself that I'm bored with Borderlands and won't be buying the next one. But by the time a new Borderlands comes out, I feel myself heavily craving a new Borderlands. Repeat the cycle every time.
