Hey Don I really enjoy your videos. The truth always finds a way out. I was wondering have you ever came across anyone who was actually telling the truth?
@donshipleyformerbuds131 Жыл бұрын
I simply look up a name when asked. If the name is not listed then that person was never a SEAL. Maybe 1 in 100 requests I get turn out to be a real SEAL and I got one this morning for a SEAL I served with and was happy to tell the person who asked that he was legit. A lot of people ask me 'how many times have you called someone that was actually a legit SEAL'? Never, not a single time. I already know you're a phony before I ever touch the phone, nizarelmashni3244.

@@donshipleyformerbuds131 Hey Don, I would like to ask if you could do a video story about an old friend of mine. His name is George Robert "Bob" Davis. He served 22 years in the Navy, with about 20 years as a SEAL. 3 tours in Vietnam , Silver Star award included. His last combat experience was in Grenada, where he had to be medevaced from a venomous snake bite. Bob Davis was born in 1947 and joined the Navy circa 1965. Circa 1966 or 1967 he earned his Trident and became a SEAL. He retired in 1986 and became a Deputy Sheriff in the rural northern California County of Mendocino. I was a CHP Officer and we worked together a lot, because sometimes the only other back up was each other. We were dive partners, free diving for abalone and spear fishing. I was a US Marine 1974 to 1980. In 1989 I went into the Marine Reserves, while still working with the CHP. Deputy Bob Davis was killed in the line of duty on April 14, 1995. He was ambushed. He killed one of the bad guys, before he was killed by .223 rifle fire. Bob Davis was loved and respected by hundreds of people in our community. I was working the night he was killed and responded to the scene. The memorial service for Bob Davis was a huge deal in our county, with over 3,000 people attending. His old commanding officer from his last unit gave an awesome tribute to Bob, along with numerous active duty Navy Sailors and SEALs in attendance, along with a Law Enforcement memorial service. Don, if you want to contact me through your website, I can give you more info. Mendocino County produced another Navy SEAL, Jesse Pittman, who was one of the SEALs killed on Extortion 17, in 2011.

I need it to go to another floor to get something, when the elevator door opened, who was there in his cocky Uniform ???. Lt. Michael Thornton, he is very tall, I guess 6'2", I am 5'9", I started looking at all his medals, when I arrived at the top, I see the Medal of Honor, I almost crap my pants..all I could say was "Sir, you have the medal of Honor!!". He was very nice, and replied to me, "yes, I am at this moment the only active duty with the medal". Later I became a FMF Recon Corpsman, I also trained at the range with the M60E3, the same as the one Don I believe has shoot with, the weight is 19Lbs. the one Thornton used during the Vietnam era, was the M60E1, which weighted 5 more Lbs, 24.5 Lbs.

Hey Senior Chief...USNA '72 here. I entered USNA in the summer of '68 and RADM Kaufman was the Superintendent for a few weeks when I was sworn in. I met him in his quarters at a "meet & greet" for the Plebe class, so I got to shake hands with a real hero - the first of several that I met. A little more detail about him: He graduated with the Class of '33, but during the Depression the Navy only needed half of the graduates so they sent the bottom half of the Class home without being commissioned. When the war broke out in Europe in '39, he volunteerd with the American Volunteer Ambulence Service in France. He was captured by the Germans and was a POW. He escaped somehow, made his way to England, and joined the Royal Navy. He joined the USN after Pearl Harbor. Truly the best-of-the-best. USS KAUFMAN (FFG-59), a PERRY-class frigate, was named after him. Thought you might want to know. Keep doin' what you're doin'.

Don, that's interesting history. I graduated from USNA in 2001 and at least by the time I went there and commissioned, a handful of SEAL Candidates were graduating and going to BUD/S. Most of my SPECWAR classmates have since left active duty, though one friend, Nate Charles, is in the USNR and practices law in Maryland. Another classmate, Commander Brian Bourgeios (posthumously promoted to Captain), CO of SEAL Team 8, died in December 2021 in a training mishap. To learn that USNA wasn't letting grads direct-commission into SPECWAR is interesting, but it doesn't surprise me. USNA continues to primarily commission officers into SWO, Subs, Aviation, or USMC. However, they've evolved some programs where now officers who meet certain qualifications go right into the Medical Corps or there are other options to do a URL tour and then lat xfer into RL communities (IP, Crypto, etc.). I had some classmates in 2001 who went into the Supply Corps on account of color blindness. Flight school attrites (fallen angels) and folks who wash out of Nuclear Power School (nuclear waste) sometimes move along to another community or get sent home if the Navy has too many officers (they flip-flop on this constantly). As for the LT Solomon you described, I found a couple - one who graduated in 1957 and is deceased and listed as "Mr." in our registry. The other, Class of 1959, retired as a Commander so I'm sure the late Mr. Solomon was your culprit. Next time you see Ace (he's Class of 1966 and SEAL), tell him Eric said hi. He was my neighbor some years back during one of my shore tours. If this story is true, and seems to be, Solomon would've crossed paths with RADM Kaufmann and certainly would've been asked about his career history at some point in social settings and such. Looking up an officer's record isn't difficult, so that he could lie to the Mids about his service history and slip through the cracks would surprise me. I'm guessing it caught up to him at some point or a military rank vice "Mr." would be in our alumni registry. My guess is he either got GCM and dismissed - OR - more likely he went to NJP and either resigned or was separated at BOI. One thing about military service is you can never get away with lying about it. I'm a retired SWO and our community is large but not so large I wouldn't be able to verify credentials on anyone. But then again, the stolen valor crowd aren't exactly running around telling people they served as SWOs. Just not glamorous enough, I guess. No one makes up sea stories about zone inspections, writing 2Ks, validating the CSMP, maintaining maintenance boards, arguing with SUPPO for parts, running main space fire drills, fast crusing, and standing duty in port.
@sierramydelta99832 күн бұрын
First off, I was never in the military, my father was enlisted in the Navy. I’ve been to the academy as a contractor, that’s as close as I’ve ever been. I’m replying because I have a neighbor, S. Solomon, that graduated from the Naval Academy in 1957. He’s still alive. Claims to be a former SEAL, flies flags on his house and is ALWAYS wearing either a Navy baseball hat or a jacket. I don’t know for certain about his claims, like I said I never served, but my BS meter goes off whenever he speaks. He also claims to have been the navigator on USS Harry Yarnell when it searched for the Thresher. Maybe the wrong person altogether, but the similarities caught my attention.

We had guys named Peace, Love, Wood and a Smallwood in my SeaBee unit. No kidding. Naturally BU3 Wood always got the obligatory greeting... "Morning Wood!" 😅

Hi Don, thank you so much for what you do, as a former Seaman of the strongest and proudest Navy in the world. The Seals have always been a childhood dream I had of joining one day, however sadly I was not able to complete my enlistment and was Honorably Discharge in 1973, But that is another story. You make me so proud of what you accomplish for your brothers and all Honorably Discharge Vets. Maybe someday I will have the honor of meeting you and your beautiful wife, stay safe and God Bless.

Don, please tell the story that you alluded to in one of your other phony SEAL videos. The instance where the phony SEAL/convicted felon got onto base in Little Creek and went on training evolutions with a SEAL team. We ALL want to hear that story!

Im about to take a civilian job with the USN overseas. Currently going through the background check, but I told them Im secret squirrel classified and that only the president can release my records (the ones that didn't burn up in the records fire). In all seriousness it will be a tremendous honor serving the mission in my unique little way, making life a little better for the service men and women stationed far from home.

I was a secret squirrel… very boring job. Not kidding, I was a secret squirrel when I was deployed with Shipley in the Persian Gulf in the mid 80s… I have pictures of him. My grade and clearance actually prevented me from attending BUDS. I was not permitted to be a grunt. Worked with them, was deployed for intel, but never a grunt.

He’s talking from a U.S. perspective. WW2 started in 1941 for the U.S. because that’s when they joined the war. So, he’s not wrong.

Don, this is Roe Seigle. Remember me? I’m the Marine with a Purple Heart and you called my purple heart got for a level three concussion “cheesy.” Then you proceeded to treat me like one of these ass clowns that steals valor. You put my picture up of my mug shot, made fun of my mental health after two tours in Iraq and demeaned my service to this country. I still have migraines from that explosion in Iraq but my Purple Heart was “cheesy.” All this because I asked you to verify a seal claim but didn’t want to call him out because I found out her was a schizo. After you embarrassed me, treated me like I had stolen valor you at least had the decency to take the video down. But now you won’t even give me, a fellow combat veteran, a phone call and explain why you did that to me.

An email to Don would make way more sense and would be more formal than leaving a comment under one of his videos

@texaspapa9445 I mean would it even matter? There's no video when you google search the guys name about being a phony seal. It's almost like it never happened.
