Stand Up To Cancer UK

Күн бұрын

Pauline was diagnosed with terminal stomach and liver cancer, where it had already spread into her stomach and liver and she was given 12 months to live.
Pauline and Tom have been together for 33 years, spending everyday, every moment in each others presence. 'We do everything together, but some time in the future, she won't be here.'
'Tom and I always thought we would grow old together into our 80's, but it's not going to happen. My life now is counted in months rather than years.'
Pauline sadly died in January 2015.

I lost my mom to cancer and my grandma. I also had cancer in my back and had to have surgery. My dad had it as well. we both fought it off but have to be checked every 6 months. There is no doubt we will die at some point , however we can fight to make sure we get many years in , as many as possible. Its always a shame to see a young person or child die . God bless everyone who is battling with cancer or any disease for that matter.

When it comes to something so big as cancer, all you have the ability to do is hope. whether lost or not, you tried. and maybe still trying today. Pauline is gone, we know this. but she will be looking out for those she loved uncontrollably up in the cloud of heaven. she may not of grown up to the ages of 80, but she stayed strong throughout her life. all your able to do now is stay on the positive and think of the happy times you had. x

I want to know why the rate of cancer is so much higher in the UK than in the USA. Why do half of Brits get cancer at least once in their lifetime? We used to get cancer in USA at a higher rate so what's going on now that it's appearing far less than in the past? And how can we help everyone in the world suffering from this curse. It seems we as humans simply don't yet have all the answers and it's maddening.

Lane, please reply to me. I have read of peoples experiences of cancer, and one thing is most obvious. They obtain a few extra years of "life", but it is of very poor quality. Oncologists peddle false hope in order to obtain money, they get a commission on the chemotherapy!!! However, some people are " cured" and cancer free for many years!!! It seems that the cancer goes into remission, but is never totally cured. Chemotherapy can be cruel and brutal, I would never have it!!! A man with osteosarcoma had treatment and a hip amputation, and is alive today after 34 years. I once had an osteosarcoma scare, and I would have refused amputation. What do you think?
@lanebashford3982
@lanebashford3982 4 жыл бұрын
@@gordanazakula4927 Yes, ITA that money is what a lot of oncologists and other docs treating cancer are after. I still think it's a basic crapshoot for most of us in that we have to take our chances and see what happens with treatments offered. I also think that many who are dying cling to false hopes and will do anything to get better so there's that. I have a good friend here in US suffering from lung cancer and he's going treatments now and doing well so far. I don't know what his prognosis is.

@@lanebashford3982 Thank you for replying!!! I have read many hopeful stories of children beating cancer. Some live into adulthood,while others suffer major health problems. However, the actual stats seem grim. A child with leukemia may reach the five year mark, but die anyway!!! Those poor children endure hell for nothing. A case in point is Connecticut teen Cassandra Callender, who was forced into chemotherapy. Callender died five years later, while being promised a 95% chance of a "cure". To add insult to injury, her family was presented with a hefty medical bill. Being cynical, those evil doctors only wanted her money. Doctors say they enter medicine because they " care", but I wonder if they would still be in it, if paid a minimum wage!!! It seems more humane to allow a child with cancer to die with dignity, but why refuse a chance of life, or even a cure? Chemo nurses must wear protective clothing, because those evil chemicals cause severe burns!!! Need I say more? I once had an osteosarcoma scare, and when they mentioned amputation, I told them to fuck off!!! Please see my comments under "The Terry Fox Story" and "A Child's Wish". Cancer is a money spinner that is why they will not find a cure. However, if a cure does make a profit, it will become widely available!!! Cancer is not one disease, but many, and it is deeply complex. However, those who peddle alternative therapies are evil conmen. Please see" Respectful Insolence" by Orac. Please reply to me.

That poor mans life is broken and will never be the same again why haven’t we got a cure when billions of pounds go into finding one each year makes you wonder if they have one and are not telling us because of financial loss. If people don’t have cancer then there will be no need for drugs treatments oncologist will no longer be needed it’s one of the most financially gaining illnesses.

This is so true. We found a vaccine for covid within 6 months. My mum died in late 2020 to myeloma. (Her treatment was paused due to lockdown) We need to hear about what “cancer research” is achieving, because every year we watch these heartbreaking stories, and it seems nothing is changing.
