They aren't step teams. They are fraternities. There are multiple fraternities on a college campus. Fun Fact, this movie (and Drumline) were filmed on the campus of my alma mater, Clark Atlanta University.

To answer your question Columbus short is a professional dancer and choreographer. He went on tour with Brandy and danced back up for her and has done a ton of other stuff like one of the “Boyz in motion” In That’s so Raven I don’t think he was bad at all in this movie.

Those “scenes” you’re talking about are from the theatrical version aka the version that was released IN theaters. The version most of us have seen are from the tv version which always cuts scenes

I don't know if anyone has said it in the here yet. But the tie breaker at the end was actually the actors having to come up with the moves and stuff except for Colombus doing the elbow move. On the DVD I got there was behind the scenes with interviews from some of them.

Yeah Columbus was an actual dancer and is actually fire. But the point of the character was his was just vibing he knew he wasn’t as good as his brother. Also the actor who played Grant was a famous choreographer as well including for NSYNC

Lmao my twin sister and I went to the movies to see this when it came out (its something we always did together) amd when they shot him I bust out laughing so loud because it was a sea of women screaming and crying because he was the reason they went to see the movie. The death didnt register to me at the time just the comedy happening around me 😂

It’s the same school, those are fraternities and they join step competitions. Not all frats step, mainly the historically black frats.

Its crazy looking back on this,film and notice the parallels between DJ and his uncle Nate. DJ's uncle went to the same college his nephew did at his age met Jackie(DJ Aunt) who was dating April's(Meagan good) Father,Dr palmer And Jackie fell in love with nate and left Dr.Palmer because she realized Nate loved her for who she is,Similar to how April left Grant for DJ.
