We had a Toyota Corolla at the office with this exact problem. Lost 3rd and 4th. We drove it around for years like that. Whoever was doing a lot of motorway miles that day would take it seen as it was annoying to drive around town missing 2 gears. The other car we had (a Vauxhall Astra) still had 5 working gears but it had a failed head gasket and every morning we would have to put water and waste oil in it because it used so much oil and coolant. Hopefully you can fix it. They don't make em' like this anymore.

After taking it apart and inspecting it, I think I can save it. Although I'm not really sure it's worth all the work because this car is pretty rusty. I guess we'll see what happens!

3-4 shift fork is broken causing the shift rail to overexstend it's travel and popping out the detent ball and spring. you will find the detent ball stuck on the magnet. good luck finding parts thats an old vehicle.

I actually took it apart already, no broken forks, thankfully But I did find a synchro popped apart and really bad 3rd gear clutching teeth. I'm going to completely tear the entire thing apart and wash everything and try to inspect it a little closer. I think I'm going to have to tear apart a second transmission to get parts for it. I have three or four cores
