Seasons Of A Navajo [1983]

Seasons of the Navajo follows a year in the life of Dorothy and Chauncey Neboia, an elderly Navajo couple and their extended family who live on the vast Navajo Reservation. Their story, produced as a film in 1984, introduces information about Navajo kinship, descent systems, gender and age roles, ecology, philosophy, religion, domestic space, child life, and economics. Visually rich, the documentary shows the widely varied ecological zones of the Navajo territory. It also presents social interaction among clan members and within a variety of environments and seasonal changes. Extended narratives in the Navajo language and performances of Navajo music and rituals bring a vivid aural dimension.

Thanks for posting!! Makes me remember when life was simple and wishing my life could be that way again. Native hopes for our younger generation to be reminded of life as we knew it. Today there are gangs, hiphop, break dancers ~ our native young people need to get back to our roots and appreciate. Be respectful of yourselves. People are who we are, not matter our native tradition or tribe.

It was because of this video I took the interest of herding sheep , shearing, carding, spinning wool, weaving and planting!! Now I do those things and I have almost 100head of sheep and goats when my family only owned as few as 15 head but now we are blessed and I tend to keep it going that way to teach my niece and nephews , I'm greatful!! Wish the weather would cooperate like it did back them times are getting hard special with no moisture... 😬. But still making away 👍👍

My great grandmother was Navajo but somehow ended up in London with an English name. She died giving birth to my grandfather so my family don't know much about her or Navajo history. The Navajo way of life looks a very good life and I wish all humans would respect the earth and appreciate nature that sustains us.

I'm thinking this Navajo family isn't doing too bad financially in this film when one sees the Cadillac Fleetwood siting in the front yard of their little wooden hogan. The Cadillac Fleetwood was quite an expensive automobile and they didn't lose their value back in those days like they do today. You buy a new $50K vehicle today, it loses $15K as soon as it leaves the car lot.
