Man up? Are men not human? Do they not feel emotions? Should they not express them? Life is nothing but tests. Man up and show you’re not invulnerable. You’re just a person like everyone else. Strength is shown through vulnerability. When you are strong you can be vulnerable.

I see points from both sides. There may not even be different sides. I don't think that comment was meant to be divisive or even controversial. I think it's certainly 100 percent ok and normal for a man to feel and express emotions. Just as it is for a woman or any human being. But I do see a point in what he implied though. Maybe not the perfect verbiage. But I see the implication. And simply put times are going to get tough. Get prepared. Be a survivor!! Not a victim!! That is one thing I see in society today. I see a lot of people who, for know good reason play the victim. Getting offended over anything and everything, being injustice collector's and even attempting to strip folks of the freedom of speech and expression. Which is one of the most unique and important rights we have in the USA 🇺🇸

I'm terribly sorry to her about your loss. This is a cathartic song which will really make you think and feel. I lost my mother last year on her birthday. It's always a tough time. One of my favorite song intros ever, for any music ever written. Its so elegant, simple yet evolving, and what a lead into the rest of the song. Maynard is actually making that double beeping sound by singing into a bullhorn and activating the trigger. Sorry for your loss man. Being present with your emotions and shedding tears is as beautiful as it is necessary. At some point, you'll need to do the two part Wings For Marie, which is Maynards eulogy to his mother. After more than 10 years, it still makes my eyes moist.

This song is generally thought to be a harsh criticism of L. Ron Hubbard and others like him who use organized religion or spirituality as a pathway to fame, power and money. Not all martyrs meet divinity But at least you tried Get off your fuckin cross We need the fuckin space To nail the next fool martyr I’m sorry about your mom. My dad passed a few years ago, but we all feel that grief differently, so I can’t know how you feel. The story of Maynard’s mom is really compelling and really sad. There are several songs on different albums where he talks his truth about it. When I realized what he was saying, it made me cry. Thoughtful, honest reaction. Thank you for sharing it.

So do you have a source for some info on the L Ron Hubbard thing ? Because I can understand that interpretation but if that wasn’t something Maynard came out and said I hear something totally different in this song

Since 2013 I have lost 6 beloved family members, including my mom in 2013 and my only son in 2015. So tired of losing loved ones, and the older I get the more 'left behind' I sometimes feel when I lose someone else. Oh, and one of my son's best friends, who spent many hours and overnights at my house over the years, also died just a year after my son. It was almost like losing 2 sons. So my heart goes out to you, I still miss my mom so, especially at Christmas. We used to have huge family gatherings at her house every Christmas, over 30 relatives there! I miss those times a lot.

Being able to really groove with with the track before having to assign massive amounts of brain energy to deal with the lyrics is quite prudent in my experience. For better or worse that is my opinion. Enjoy Tool however you want bro. BTW, loved the immediate acknowledgement and grab for the rig. Keep crushing it!

It’s pronounced Ah-ne-ma. Just to help you out. Absolutely love this song! Especially after the halfway mark. Also, the sort of squeaking sound throughout the first part are Maynard (vocals) using a megaphone and just cutting off the device as he sings to make those sounds. It’s so cool!

@@StonedChakra Tool intentionally mixes their vocals so that you have to listen closely if you want to understand. not being able to understand them on the first or second listen is completely understandable.
