The lyrics come from book five of my favorite series, The Ranger's Apprentice, by John Flanagan. The book is called The Sorcerer of the North and early in the book, the main character changes the lyrics of an old folk song to pick on his mentor, Halt. Halt is not pleased, to say the least, with his young former apprentice.
Because I love the series so much, my sister and I decided to write the song based on how we imagined it and the description in the book.
I'm pretty disappointed with the sibilance (harsh s/t/z/sh sounds), but somehow it almost adds to the folky charm. I've since learned how to deal with that in my mixes, but once I get really great I want people to be able to go back and see how far I've come. Hopefully it will inspire them to take action on their own dreams!
I have no idea how to contact him, but I would love for John Flanagan himself to hear this someday. I wonder how he imagined the song when he wrote the lyrics.
