StoneWurx Project 2012 - Dry Laid Stone Stable Building located in Hanover Ontario Canada. The building is a total of 40'L x 21'W x 7'H. The stone is quarried Limestone (www.uppercanadastone.com) with large stones set for as the foundation. This built took over 2 years on and off with DSWA Certified Wallers from Canada, US, UK and worldwide. The building was built on the property of www.groundeffectsinc.ca. Wedding, parties and events are held at in and around this incredible structure. The project was organized and created by Dean McLellan Stonework. A wonderful example of a Dry Laid Stone BUILDING. I Revisited and Filmed this May 26, 2018. I had the great opportunity to work on the upper chimney and front corner of this structure during a 1 week period. Where I had the chance to meet many of my fellow wallers I had been friends with online for years.

That stable will stand for hundreds - nay thousands - of years! I’m thrilled to find someone chose to build a building dry. This is great.

Great question. No blue prints nor website except for the landscape company. I'm not sure if they had any engineering drawlings. I was not apart of that process. Thank you for the comment.

Thanks for sharing. I was wondering what's the material that you used in between walls? Generally, supposing that we don't want to use cement at all, what solution can be used to fulfill small gaps between stones?
@toonybrain
@toonybrain 5 жыл бұрын
janboa25 Dry walls don’t use a bonding agent. The center is filled with snuggly placed hearting (smaller stones). Well-made dry stone walls don’t need anything else. Friction. They’re works of art.

Are the walls air tight?
@RockinWalls
@RockinWalls 3 жыл бұрын
Yes as thick as they are I would say so. There is no insulation so it's still pretty cold. This building is only used for events. Such as weddings.... The main build right to the left not shown has a full commercial kitchen oversized fireplace and lots of room to set up tables or keep open. The combination of all buildings makes for an amazing space. Look up the Black House in Scotland. That's got everything thing. You can even rent it like a Air B & B.

Just some steel bar holding it up. If you look closely, you'll see a gap in the sides of the fireplace that has been filled with mortar, which looks like a slot for the steel. Pause at ~ 5:20, and you can see the mortar, and you can see the edge of a steel bar under those stones.

The Fireplace is built with mortar in order to house the fire bricks. All traditions methods of a fireplace box have been applied even a terracotta flue liner. Around the mortared sections of fireplace have been built dry without any mortar.

It doesn't look very stable-y to me. I mean, obviously it is not used as a stable...just an incredibly expensive garden feature. Some rich person is showing off how rich they are.

This is located at a garden center, where they use this building along with many others for events such as weddings. Just happens to be called a stable. This is the first new build of its kind in Canada. Ground setting in every way for permits to be approved. Nothing else like it currently in North America. Showcases many amazing examples of dry laid stone work with in. The funding was all from donations from the community and I believe a grant. Has nothing to do with some RICH Person showing off their wealth!

@@RockinWalls This is amazing. Was going to ask about permits. If I wanted to build a small stone cottage (maybe not dry laid) in Canada, with stone interior walls (so no foam insulation!) would it be possible? I am curious about insulation of stone homes in general and haven't found any good info on the topic. How do stone homes hold up in the Northern winters? Glad to have found your channel. Subscribed!
