Hello, my name is Marcus and I live in Nashville Tennessee. I go to Kentucky almost every weekend and I noticed that you are in Kentucky. I’m picking up a dog in two days that is four months old. The owner can no longer keep the dog and I have offered to get him. I would love the opportunity to learn from you to help with the rehoming process. My main goal is to make the dog feel comfortable and loved to establish the basic commands responses. If you have contact information, please share it with me as I would love to get in touch with you. Thank you.

"Training Dysmorphia" yes!! Thank you for putting that into words. Everything on the internet looks and sounds easy. Maybe it is - but more often than not it doesn't *feel* easy, because the work still has to happen. Watching video dog training is like watching someone take out the garbage. Easy enough, but your brain forgets to consider the weight and smell of the garbage that makes taking it out *feel* more difficult than it looks.

My Wire fox terriers 1) come when called:::: sorta 2) be still when asked::::: for 30 seconds 3) have manners in eyes of my neighbors:::: nope But I am unbelievably happy with them as they are such wonderful dogs, love to play, hike, swim, run in the woods, they just don’t do well in the civilized world that’s all, you get them out where I like to be in the woods and away from people and they are a dream come true

Perfect timing. I adopted a 6 yr old poodle 5 months ago, she was so skittish I couldn’t touch her. Today, I giggled when she played with me and realized how far she’s come in really a short time. Is she perfect? No! But she now completely trusts me and we’re both way more relaxed. I am letting her adjust to my life and we’re both happier every day. Setting our own goals.

This video is what I love about Uncle Stonnie! Compassion, common sense, and wisdom. The pup that grows up with some structure and an owner who allows for the learning to advance in a natural and appropriate for the age way has a very different experience than the one who is constantly being corrected and held to expectations above their maturity level. Show your little grasshopper the way Sensei! 🙏

I needed this Stonnie! My12 year old Dobermann was great at not jumping up but my newest male puppy is taking longer to keep his four paws on the ground. He’s in his adolescent stage 🙄 I take them both for walks and do training and give them enrichment toys every day. I’m focusing on what he has learnt and that makes me happy. Fun it is and letting him just be a dog sometimes is going to be my new motto 😃

Thanks for this video! It’s just what I needed for a couple of reasons… I have a 6 month old Wirehaired Pointing Griffon who is an incredible dog, and easily meets all the criteria that I think is necessary for a “good” dog (he’s mastered the behavior basics, never missed a recall in the woods, and will sit and stay in the middle of a dog park with others playing around him, or a crowded market when I need to have attention elsewhere). Even with all of that good behavior, I’ll sometimes get frustrated because he doesn’t want to walk straight on the leash, so your comment about field dogs wanting to zig-zag was a needed “duh” moment. I began watching your videos before I picked him up at 8 weeks, and they have inspired me to challenge myself to have a highly socialized dog. Every day for the past four months I have made sure he has had a significant “new” experience daily - hikes, swims at the beach, finding snow in summer, seeking out a new neighborhood, exploring stick piles and climbing logs, and daily playtime with new dogs that we come across. All this incorporated into miles and hours of exercise until his “fatigue meter” is hanging out. So I’ve been surprised recently when my once gregarious puppy who knew no fear started to act very nervous around new dogs and people, or would just enter into a weird mood for no reason. I’ve never heard of older puppies having a fear stage and now will seek to learn more. If you decide to make a video about that subject, it would be so welcome. Thanks again for the knowledge and entertainment.

Great video. In New Zealand I am lucky to be able to take the dogs out in some great places. Unfortunately not all dog owners are like me and keep their dogs on a lead and don't want their dog playing with mine and just being dogs. That frustrates me a lot, something I need to get over.

Thank you Stonnie, this is exactly the video I needed today. I love the idea of what if you the owner are not feeling right, and what are some good ways to keep your high energy dog entertained or mentally stimulated. How to do it on chunks. I’m a perfectionist, but struggle with autoimmunity sometimes. Having videos with simple play and grace or break periods reminds me of what it was like when I would train my dog as a kid, which involves letting them run and explore and play in the yard, us playing together, and then some training. Also, do you recommend letting them get their energy out before leash walking and training?

Thanks Stonnie - that’s such great advice! I love your style of training that is focused on the dog’s well being rather than pure obedience or ‘about the trainer’. It always makes me think about training from the dog’s perspective. By far the most pragmatic, realistic and non-ideology led advice I’ve come across! Are you able to do a video about dog adolescence? So much stuff on the internet sensationalise that period and I just want a more balanced view of what to expect and what I should do to support my husky puppy through it

Our labrador nearly 5 months old, is still not finally potty trained, so she pees in the flat sometimes without even giving any signal she needs to pee. Not happening daily now, but still happening. I just try to accept that my dog is doing and learning things on her own pace like my kids did. I don't have this high expectations, so she cannot disappoint me much 😅
