Back in the 1970s i was working in the west end of London at the time of the IRA bombings. I was a white Londoner in my 20s with long curly hair, i was stopped several times and searched by the police Which was never nice but neccessary. The police officers were plain clothes officer and were, shall we say very firm when they stopped me. Once they searched me and established who i was and where i was going they would appologise and we went our separate ways. This was profiling as as being white with curly hair also with a limp probably fitted their idea of a possible bomber at the time. Its obvious what my point is. I can sympathise with those people that have to go through this but if the police were just to stand by and do nothing they would be criticised fir that as well.

We always need to run stop and search as the streets have become lawless. There needs to be a deterrent to carrying a shank and that deterrent is fear of being caught with it. But sentences need to be higher as I saw loads of people in Prison earlier this year for knives and most were out before me! Most only had 6months (serve 3 in prison) for carrying a Rambo knife on the street

I am a white boy and i've been stopped before in London. I was cycling my bike in and around the same area for quite a while and officers who were on static patrol caught on to me and had a word with me to see what I was up to. It didn't really faze me that much because I didn't have anything to hide and I just put it all down to experience. If you haven't got anything to hide I don't see what the problem is. 2013 this was filmed amazing the following years where the police was encouraged not to do stop and search crime levels went up and more people started to carry knifes . We then saw a push late 2018/2019 for stop and search and crime started to fall in certain areas that had high % of stop and search. So what does that tell you! it's a practice that works. I would personally point to the years where people was against stop and search as to the reason why we have this high level of knife carrying. Yes mistakes have been made by the police in the past but communities need to take action/responsibility instead of always looking for an excuse.

LOOOOOOL Actually you might want to check that, it's actually majority white. In of 2020 over 600,000 arrest were made 130k black 120k Asian and other ethnic minorities. Meaning that over 350k of those arrest were white. Of those arrest made in relatence to weapon carrying studies found that areas of poverty were more likely to produce a higher percentage in all racial backgrounds. Interestingly of the 130k arrest made only 61% were satisfiable, mean almost 40% of those arrest were dropped due to lack of evidence or no evidence. Of the 350k arrest made 86% of the cases were satisfiable. The truth hurts doesn't it😂😂.

What is needed is much more leeway for police to take whatever action they feel necessary. Stop and search based on a copper's gut instinct is an excellent and effective approach - not just in detection and prevention of drug and knife related offences but also as a counter to anti-social, threatening behaviour that doesn't quite cross the line into formal criminality, but should be checked. Altogether, police should adopt a zero toleration approach and come down like a ton of bricks on offenders and unruly, unco-operative suspects.

I understand the feelings that "it's because I'm black" from a differing angle, i had a sports car, i look young, i got stopped every week for a month, but i responded politely and I told them how regularly i was getting stopped. I don't break the law, getting stopped even on some shifty premise does not make me feel worried, it makes me feel that at least they are trying to do something about people causing problems. If that is gangs in your area, unruly drivers or hooligans or any variety, regardless of colour or race then you should be thankful, if you aren't doing anything wrong and you don't respond with hostility then they will not take further action. Got stopped and searched more times than I can remember when I was young, so what. If people were being knifed in my area I would want the police to be doing more stop and search because it works i.e. stopping people getting killed. My understanding is that if you are a young black man you are far more likely to be knifed or be carrying a knife so it would appear right and logical that more young black man in these areas get stopped and searched. What I don't understand is why black community leaders are not calling for more and why this causes problems for the black community?

In my area, I was faced with 4 black teens, one with a large kitchen knife. I was terrified , I'm 69 and female. Police caught all 4 luckily, and I never go out on my own now!!. Last week, Police arrested about 10 Romanians and I haven't seen men since!!. It seems to me that crime is rampant, and our country is teeming with 16-45 Yr old men with nothing to do so crime is their life !!

What's wrong with that? 12 has nothing to do with it..... kids as young as 12 and 13 have been murderers before, I'm an ex special and now a serving PC, the borough I was a special at had kids as young as 10 carrying knives, and seriously involved in drug and knife crime, robberies, etc. Age basically means nothing.

Believe me, when you're an officer you learn to suspect everyone. When you consider where I work, kids as young as 10 are known knife carriers, and kids as young as 14 are wanted on suspicion of murder, and involved in daily stabbings, it's not at all surprising that you carrying tools around whilst skateboarding was viewed as suspicious, it's not a common thing, most people that go skateboarding don't carry their skateboard tools around with them. It's like going out for a bike ride and bringing a bike wheel pump with you.... people don't do it.

How? What law says driving with one hand off the wheel is illegal? None whatsoever. It would need to be seriously distracting or careless (i.e speeding, swerving around) for it to be careless driving. The use of a personal radio at the wheel is permitted, as it's classified as a two way communications device that operates on a certain frequency, therefore exempt from the mobile phone law, the same applies to CB radios, so legally truck drivers could use a CB radio whilst driving if they wanted, however they are not common at all in the UK to my knowledge.
