Laxey, also known as Laksaa in Manx, sits on the eastern shores of the Isle of Man. Its name originates from the Old Norse term "Laxa," signifying 'Salmon River'. Notable for its operational vintage railways (Manx Electric Railway, and Snaefell Mountain Railway) and boasting the world's largest functional waterwheel, Laxey also hosts King Orry's Grave.
Situated along the A2, the primary route connecting Douglas to Ramsey, Laxey enjoys accessibility via the vintage Manx Electric Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway. Nestled between Manx National Glens: Laxey Glen offers serene surroundings, while Dhoon Glen lies approximately 1 1⁄4 miles distant. Furthermore, the Raad ny Foillan, a coastal footpath established in 1986, traverses Laxey Bay, offering scenic views of the village.
