My daughter got her Tea Cup Yorkie from an elderly lady on a farm who could no longer care for him (age 3 or so). We had to potty train him. He is now almost 6 and my daughter moved away for a job with changes to weekly schedules of sometimes 12hrs/day so now I have him. I have had 2 recent spinal cord surgeries and want to train him not to go into a barking and circling panic every time we meet other dogs on walks and not to pull on the leash. My usual recourse is to bend down and pick him up but that isn't good for my back.

I’ve been having this issues with my Yorkie-Poo(also named Eevee) and she gets almost aggressive(hasn’t bit but it’s 😳 ) if she sees another dog now. We live in an apt(1st flr) and we’ve let her get out of hand. I’m definitely gonna try out these tips!

My Yorkie gets mad at me when I tell him no. I don’t yell at him. He just throws a barking fit and attacks my feet. I don’t know if he is actually trying to bite me..I don’t think so.. when I pick him up he doesn’t do anything.

Don't encourage it. As soon as they start to bark say NO or shhh in a tone they won't like. When they stop say yes on a happy tone and reward. Most people think when the puppy first barks that its cute. A dog that gets to practice bad behaviour will continue bad behaviour, stop it before it becomes a habit . Just like teaching a dog to sit, takes practice. Always practice what you want and discourage what you don't. Dogs need directions to feel confident and safe.

My friend tried that with a yorkie she got from shelter crate didnt work for her due to the fact it was in a crate In shelter she didnt know what to do I didnt have one so i had no idea so she used a darn pacifier worked for her untilshe did reverse Psychology bought a very soft plush bed and dog treats and he started to notice when barking go back to crate no treats so when she call him when he barking he a stop but uinno that is one question ive always wondered

Aww Thank you Lorine!! Yes, you can separate the space but it may confuse them. It would be easier for them to understand one place for quick punishment placements and keeping them in their crate as their home/happy place. I will touch on this question on my crate training video. Thank you!!!

Great Info! I have always had (still have) large dogs (GREAT DANES), I ended up taking my dad's toy yorkie and WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! I love him to pieces BUT, I am now pregnant and am incredibly worried that he is going to bark at the new baby or whenever the baby cries (since he barks like crazy around my one year old niece). What can I do to help alleviate any anxiety?

How do you stop the yapping. I just got a yorkie a week ago today and he’s 7 wks. He yaps and barks for attention so I can take him out of the playpen. I keep hearing that I shouldn’t give him attention when he’s doing that and let Him stop first. But how would he know to stop?

Yes. Show leadership when walking your dog. Leash pressure training is very important. Don’t give your dog too much freedom, they will reign you. Bring treats with so when you ask your dog to stop barking? Reward immediately. 💯

My puppy did that around the same age and I knew I immediately had to show him who was boss. I picked him up and put him in his crate, not as a punishment, but to show that I was boss. It didn’t hapoen again.

I am going to help my new Yorkshire puppy as a therapy dog for my mental illness. It involves a lot of training, and I will get professional help along with training from me. He is only 11 weeks old, and I don't have him yet, but I already have the forms filled out as a dog who works with a disability. They are small and supposed to be excellent with my condition. I can also take him on an airplane after he is trained My strategy for potty training is to take him outside every couple of hours so he can go potty. I can't wait until he comes home!

My sister dumped her dog with us but still thinks it’s ok to dictate what he can or can’t do?? And then my mom thinks it’s hilarious when he barks and I’m the only one stuck with this annoying yorkie I didn’t want in the first place who is a constant anxious mess and barks so annoyingly all the time. I can try to train him but I can guarantee all of that will go out the window with the others in my family 😒 I know it’s not his fault, I feel terribly for him.
