If you follow at least 1 safety rule…..you won’t negligently shoot someone or something. I spent 22yrs as an infantryman….the Army is the worst offender of making someone afraid of their weapon.

I'll allow myself to be devil's advocate a little bit: The reason you can maintain at least some "layers" under stress is set of habits hammered into you. You can't take off the "layers" you didn't put on in the first place. Those fire&maneuvre situations you described are to be done by people who know their stuff. At least to some extent. People have to arrive at that level somehow. Flat range is the place to get those safety habits ingrained in order to retain at least one (preferably two) "layer" of safety under less "sterile" conditions. If someone can't do it under zero stress surely he can't do that on a two-way range. There is also an issue with commercial ranges: I had a brief episode of working as safety officer at commercial range and an similar issue occasionally arose. Usually it was resolved with two arguments: 1. Even one fatality can mean closing the range for investigation (it's not USA, you may have it different), leading to owner going bankrupt. Insurance against that kind of event would cost so much that the owner would have to double the price (assuming no decrease in number of customers), so it's out of question. 2. You don't get to dictate the rules to the owner of the land (range). He gets to dictate the rules. You get to decide whether you abidy by or vacate the premises. Keep up.

That's how we ran as kids in the early 1980's, out in the woods - no training, but common sense, a risky, funAF common sense(with an eye on moderate safety, but not enough to spoil the fun). I noticed in the mid '90s safety karens started to show their heads, now it is just insufferable foolishness. But, we were of different, stronger caliber in those days, I'm sure the dudes back in the late 1770's would think we are ALL pansies nowadays. Rock on!

You had mentioned you will show how to setup an ALICE gear. I've been wondering, we rocked those in Basic but of course they never told us how to use our gear properly. You had show how to use the "waist" belt on the ruck properly which is across your abs, however can you use it with a LBE on? I never used it cause the LBE belt would interfere with the ruck belt.

Good video. In any sort of combative training or combat, safety cannot be "job #1" or "our highest priority." If it were, we would not BE THERE! The mission is job #1. Staying as safe as possible while accomplishing that mission is job #2...or 3. Habits...safe weapons handling is all about developing safe habits to the extent they happen without conscious thought, even under stress and in the midst of chaos. Perfection is a concept we strive for relentlessly, not a reality we ever attain. Old 11B from the days of alice clips, blousing rubbers, 1000 mile-an-hour tape, Woodland BDUs, and P38s on our dog tag chains.

I subbed because you remind me of a KZbinr I used to watch from way back in the day, I'm talking 14 or 15 years ago. He was an army vet who had built up a decent following-around 250k subscribers-and made videos about guns, tactical training, and his views on U.S. politics. His content consistent mostly of anti-government overreach and constitutional issues. But a strange thing happened one day, he was just gone. No explanation, no more content-just the timestamp of his last video. Some of us speculated about what might have happened to him, like whether or not he had been disappeared by the feds or perhaps someone else. Truth is, no one really knows. His channel was called "MrLockandLoad!"

Be careful, finger straight, thumb on safety (and I've been in situations where the safety was off), and muzzle awareness. I can't stand videos where the first 5 min is showing me the gun is empty! Ugh! Grow up! As the Russian General said Iz gun, iz not safe.

🙌 thank you for explaining this! If your main concern (hyper focus) is on safety you will lose sight of the objective. We train with our weapons to become more proficient with them (this includes safety). I never served, but I’ve always done the thumb holding the safety thing ever since I had a safety switch off hitting my gear while running. I didn’t know this was a thing and I have the thumb callus 😂. I always get questioned why I switch safety off when bringing the gun up to ready position to engage. I’m like, I watched Haley and Macnamara so many times, long ago that is just natural and also “feels right.” Train with your people and safety will not be the major concern.

Halfcock was a thing when I learned to shoot. We also were taught not to pull the trigger till we wanted to shoot. The finger off the trigger was not a thing yet. Since then I have been taught that barrel up is generally safer that pointing down. Down is where everyone's legs are. Not much up in the sky to hit. Funny how things change over time. Keeping the safety on is one of the few continuing threads. That has not changed. Although safeties have.

Got a question for Grunt Proof and any other combat vet who reads this: Should someone who has 20/80 vision (like me) actually get involved in combat training? Cause in a SHTF situation or a firefight, having bad vision is a complete liability. So should people like me even bother getting involved with this movement or even training in general? The physical fitness I get, but if this whole minuteman movement is going to be meritacratic (I think I spelled that right) then why should someone like me be involved? If I couldn't even get a waiver to serve in this military, what good would I be on a milita fireteam? I do believe in what this guy says, hell I even got into rucking due his videos, but I don't really know if I should even bother getting involved. It's not like one of chosen sons of this country. Sorry if this sounds bitchy, I'm just looking for guidance here.

Bro, I can’t speak for anyone else but RIGHT THE FUCK ON! Hell, I’m proud of you for just having the presence of mind to ask. I’m in no position to teach or instruct anyone, so these are just my thoughts. Remember, it’s worth what it costs. In a situation where we as a society no longer have resources like EMS, Fire, Police, Groceries at the ready or even gas stations, we all need to be the greatest asset for ourselves and others that we can be. So, find your spot. If you have a MAG and you’re pretty squared away at the defensive position, fill in other holes. Get some Med training, be a base station communications coordinator, fuck it…do some dishes. There will be plenty of work to go around. Promise. If you are in a situation where you are forced to take a defensive position, well…you’re the next man up. So…be the next man up. And God bless. ✝️ But, the fact that you have asked this question makes me think that maybe we should acknowledge that there is a possibility that we may need to do some preparation in this area. If it was me, I’d get all the training I could. Weapons or otherwise. Then I’d put my best players in THEIR best positions. I hope this helps you, Bro. And if not, Randall can kick my ass next time I see him. lol! 👍🤣

When faced with an attacker I'd rather you could identify n put cover fire down than saying I can't do anything. Those trained or that practice can pinpoint targets while you could keep adversaries ducking. Point blank in front of you unless blind you can stop a enemy. I wouldn't go the reasons not to route n wish you did. Best of luck to us all. Prep in the meantime food, medical, n yes bullets. Bbb beans bullets n bandaid.

@ianphillips9105 brother, get glasses with a strap, and an extra set. It's not ideal because they'll fog up as you sweat and get hot. If you can afford it you should get PRK surgery (best option), LASIK (second best), and glasses (third best option). Contacts are not as reliable but are better than nothing.
