Hello friends! In this video I will create a handy and tool from a broken hand plane. This tool will save me a lot of money. I hope you enjoy!
It uses the blade from a hand plane, and turns scrap wood into dowels so you don’t have to buy them. The angle was the hardest to figure out, but I got good results around 6 degrees. The adjustment bolts are there to hone the placement, and once adjusted, it nails the size of the dowels every time.

I'm really enjoying these idea driven pieces like You won't believe what I made out of a 5-liter bottles, rather than the more 'not popular’ videos like Cool idea! Don't throw away pieces of wood! I also enjoy AWESOME DIY IDEA - REBAR AXE My favorite ones include unique idea from old frying pan In case you were wondering this block of text is for SEO so you really don't need to read this. But yeah, got to mention my other stuff like HandCraft, and Men's Craft, and Mr. Inventor so my videos end up in the related section.

The ability to make cheap and easy dowel is important. In many jobs, I'd rather use dowel than nails. Add a little wood glue to dowel peg nails and they work fantastic for many job applications.

My grandparents always had a few of the blue cookie tins and 2 had sewing supplies, and the others has more keys than anyone could ever imagine! At least once a week in summer, my grandpa and I would head inside and search thru the tins and he always knew which key he was looking for and he just preferred keeping them there. We had everything from old 61 Chrysler New Yorker keys, dump truck and log truck keys, tractor and tiller and mower keys, shop keys, etc.. he literally had it all!

It is both good an bad to have a workshop outside, any tools left out will rust to no avail, and its impossible to keep it clean of dust and leaves. On the other hand you get to see the animals and notice the seasons changing, be around when it gets dark and the insects start to come out and go about their night (usually towards my lights). Every night exactly one hour after the sun goes down an opossum appears out of some hole and starts looking for food.

You can use any flat piece of tool steel as the cutter. You can buy a block plane blade separately. There is no need to to take the parts from another functional tool.

However, if you have - or find, as I frequently do when tip-scrounging - a damaged / broken plane you can use the blade from that. (Even if it's damaged. Just put a new edge on it.) Better than ditching everything.

If you were going to run the wood through the router why not just chuck a roundover bit in the router and hit all four edges and you have a perfect dowel. E.g. a 5/32" radius roundover makes a 5/16 dowel, a 1/4" radius roundover makes a 1/2" dowel, etc.

@@A.Mere.Creator well, again, I really like your stuff so I’m not really sure why you wouldn’t get the viewership... I guess my biggest note would be focusing on projects that are easy to grasp the concept of (like a floating chair) but are obviously impressive (also like the chair, but the lighty-marble-funnel-doohickey too). So I guess “easy to invest interest in, cool to watch.” For example, this video, while very kinda ASMRy, doesn’t really have a super clear “impressiveness” factor, or a wide marketability outside of people who like tools or something. Hope that helps at all. Again, big fan, get you some recognition!

Really depends on a couple things, one being the frequency of which you buy dowels and the other being how your mind works, I love making things for the sake of being able to do it and have the capacity the thing offers so for someone like me this is right up my alley If you like making things so you can have things then this naturally wouldn’t be for you, it’s just a matter of taste

There's no telling how many times my wife has said to me, "The _____ broke. Can you fix it?" Now, I could say, "I can screw it back together, but it won't be as strong, and it'll look like shit. The best way to fix it is to drill it out and glue it back together with a couple pegs. I'll put pegs on the list and grab some the next time I run to town." (Ignoring the the possibility that pegs of all things might be out of stock due to supply chain issues, there's an 80% chance I won't look at the list and will forget it, but that's a separate issue...) Or I could say, "No problem. I have a dowel jig. Let me see - what size do I need? I have plenty of scraps lying around and can whip out a few pegs right now. Give me 5 minutes." Granted very few dowel applications are emergency situations LOL (and in all likelihood, they won't be out of stock), but so what! Where's the fun in buying a pack of dowels? I like making things. I like knowing how to make things. And it's a jig and jigs are cool!
@joseraygoza7808
@joseraygoza7808 2 жыл бұрын
As a cabinet maker/ finish carpenter I can tell you that making dowels is very very simple. I could turn a few dozen dowels of any diameter and length on my lathe in a matter of minutes. I could drive some stock through 1/4" metal plate with holes in it that I have. If I want to have some fun I'll pull out my spokeshaves. But, though I have the capacity! I would never invest the time to make a jig like that. I rather buy them than to make them in that fashion! Cheers Mates!!!!

0:37 Aha! At last we know the REAL reason why you enjoy woodworking so much! Your secret has been revealed. :-) It's always the same story. You start with the cheap stuff-dimensional pine and spruce from the Home Depot. You can take it or leave it. Then, you graduate to some of the harder stuff-red and white oak, sycamore, yew. Still not a problem. You can quit any time. Then, someone hooks you up with the hard-core aromatics-incense cedar, camphor wood, cypress, lignam vitae, sandalwood. You're gone. Now you're hiding pieces of wood all over the house. Your nearest and dearest take away your saws and you find yourself using the cheese grater on some Port Orford cedar that you scored in a dark alley behind Lowes. Perhaps it's not too late. Please don't let us find you hacking away at a telephone pole with a butter knife. We're here for you. All seriousness aside, this project really shows your creativity. Every one of your videos is a joy.
