I have an amazing shopping hack. The next time that you are at the grocery store and need fresh herbs, purchase the organic herb plants and grow your own!

I did this today. I needed fresh basil, and the teeny amount you get from the plastic clamshell packs in the fridge case at Kroger, is outrageously priced. I got one of these Organic basil plants for $1.99, and after I use what I need for dinner tonight, I'll transfer this to my garden. 👍🏽❤️

Commercial herbs are fed with synthetic fertilizer, if you grow organically it is extremely difficult to transition them when they are fed synthetic fertilizers for the duration of their growth until they are sold
@noodle646
@noodle646 3 ай бұрын
There is no difference between synthetic and organic fertilizer, except that synthetics kill important microbial life whereas organic doesnt. you can use both at the same time if you wanted, plants cant tell the difference so there is no "hard to get used to the transfer" when switching different fertilizers. Transplanting from a pot into the ground/bigger pot can gender their growth for a bit from the shock.
@jordanhuguenard8315
@jordanhuguenard8315 3 ай бұрын
@@noodle646 If the organic fertilizer has already been processed by microbes I would agree with you, it's just liquid processed nutrients, but the symbiotic relationship between the microbes and the roots of the plant hasn't been established because they are in a microbe free environment for its entire life until purchased by someone and planted, it's that transitional phase of symbiosis between the microbes and the plant is what's difficult assuming the plant is mature

Dont be upset if they die, they come extremely root bound and are watered constantly or never depending on store. Dont get me wrong, this can work! The ones in garden center are usually healthier and not crowded in the pots

Or you can just grow your own. I suppose that's not convenient enough for many people though. I prefer to watch things grow from seed. All that effort to water and care for the plant to see them bloom is better than anyplace I could buy.
