@@rusty_rockets I am new to this channel and I'm sorry to say that I agree that it's very distracting when Dr. David is interrupted. I feel he has so much information to share (and I want to hear him), and it's obvious she cannot wait to speak. Even with her saying "a-huh" or "yeah" is distracting. I am hoping as I listen to more current videos, that will taper off. If it doesn't I don't know if I can watch their videos.

At 55 years old and suffering from deep depression last year I watched a video about not caring about what others think. What a light bulb moment. I immediately felt better. Boy what a different life I have now. I make different choices. Right now I am trying to catch up from a life time of being a door mat. My mother was extremely critical and OCD which compounded the issue. I was in abusive relationships all my life. My therapist believed because my mother had a disabled child, my brother it may have affected her emotional health, feeling responsible for causing the disability. I can totally see my parents shame and guilt over it while I was growing up. On top of that I felt tossed aside so they could care for him. I was 4 years younger. This would start a life time of me trying to get people to like me, because I didn't feel any love and affection from my mother. My mother is 89 and she has morphed into a very abuse person partly because my brother died a tragic death which made her even worse. I have forgave her and visit her regularly to help with care giving. While I am there I try to boost her self esteem and make her feel good about herself as that is the root of her madness. I no longer feel the brunt of her abuse. I feel sorry for her life which was a rough one with very little family support, education and love. I like this video and I really hope others get that light bulb moment. It is life changing and very important. Once you really pin point why you are the way you are, you still have to get over the hump of a life time of dysfunction, but you can live a good life with the knowledge. We must remember our parents had their own issues, pain and fear while they were raising us. Break the chain. It is never to late to show your adult children love and support.

I don’t know you personally but I am inspired by you and mega proud of you and most of all I am sooooooo bloody happy for you!!! I would love to add that I am also kicking goals at the moment - hours and hours of amazing positive vids on KZbin have been one of the catalysts (Wu Wei included!). My light bulb moment came to me recently in the form of KNOWING (realising/remembering) that I created everything around me, I very much chose this existence and I very much chose all the key points in it before I was born and I am merely wearing a suit (a human body) so that I can have a human experience - and now that I know (that I have remembered) that I created everything around me, what do I want to create next? How liberating!! 😀

I'm already for at least 5 years on my journey to healing and self love and I listened to so many videos and much research. Your videos really help bring clarity to the core of the problem. I have childhood trauma, been beaten and incarcerated and ever since I locked my personalty far away. I try so much to understand the views of everyone around me to kind of fit in there. When I'm around people my inner voice is completely silenced, my head is empty and all I try to do is adapt to the situation like a chameleon. Even though I practice self empowering thoughts and self care I still fail to really speak my mind. Maybe because my opinions are so very different from what most people think. I believe I have very strong opinions and quite a big personality, but none of that ever came to life. It's only when I am alone that I'm able to uncover some of it. Now to the video. This is exactly my problem, I'm having a really strong opinion but sometimes I don't know who I really am because I'm also trying to adapt to what people think is okay and normal for them.

I really appreciate your work and I finally got it! That I am not a victim to my emotions! I know the reason why I am afraid of what people think of me. As children both mine and my sister ALLWAYS related to our mother’s temperament. If she was angry, we cleaned our rooms. I remember particularly one time when our parent were fighting, as so often. Our mother shouted that she will die because of how our father was treating her. I believed every word: I thought she was dying. Having that said, I know that I am very sensitive to what other people think of me, friends, colleagues etc. I fell into that trap just today. And now that I know this, I am longing to find that little scared boy and help him. Can I book a session with you David?

David, I believe I do love myself and family is very important to me. My daughter-in-law has stopped visiting my husband and I and hasn’t come over in a full year even though they live minutes away. I find this very hurtful. I know I can’t control her and here is that word “ but” I sense she has changed, her feelings of love for me have diminished. She doesn’t deny it. I’m troubled as I want her to love me as a family member! She doesn’t have to accept everything I say or do as we are each our own person. She’s married to my son and I’d like her to love me like she used to. Just have us over once in awhile or tell me right out what I have done to offend her.

Once again, thank you for the great video and greetings from South Africa. Ever since I started listening to you guys, I have cultivated a culture of talking to myself - my inner child. I usually just write it down. And the lessons that I have been receiving from my Shen have been mind blowing. I'm hoping to one day write a book and entitle it, Conversations with myself. People usually say that when one starts to talk to themselves its a sign that they are going insane - but in the same vein I believe that if you stop talking to yourself you will go crazier! Before I found out about the inner child, it would sabotage all my relationships by over reacting and blowing things out of proportion. I had so many emotional triggers such that my partners felt as though they had to 'walk on egg shells' - or so they would say. But since I started listening to these teachings I have been more aware of myself and thus more in control. This is because I realize that I am not the victim of my emotions but the creator. I'm not totally out of the woods yet, but at least this time when I have an outburst, I can go to the root of the emotion and deal with it. So that when it happens next time, I'm prepared for it and don't have to go around the carousel again. Thanks again! Keep it up.

I’ve realised how much I’m living in a bubble, trying to be perfect and get everyone to like me. If they don’t or I am criticised I am scared of them leaving me so I always try and please them. This means that I end up letting everyone else control me and decide my life’s directions. I class myself as sensitive and therefore I try and protect myself by arguing back ! It’s a vicious circle and I’m tired. I guess I don’t believe in myself because I was taught I was a burden. If I am to take this route then I must love myself and think I’m not a burden. This frightens me because my opinions always seem to contradict others which is why it feels safer to stick to what I know I.e. letting others take control and get upset when they criticise me or take whatever they say as truth

Thank you David and Alex...you are both so amazing..the yin and yang of our lives. I can’t stop listening to your videos. I actually close my eyes in meditation, because at last I am learning to trust. I lost my trust, belief in my self when I was two and a half years. You mention often the ages of 6 to 9 years but my significant event happened a lot earlier. Through your teachings iam learning that that beautiful little girl shut down her feeling to protect herself from further emotional harm...what a clever girl she was...she became fearful and made a vow that she is not okay as she is....That has been running my life . I knew for a long time that that experience caused me a lot of emotional trauma but I have been trying to get rid of these feelings of insecurity over and over again. I am 62 and a half now. And you know what David and Alex, I was on the verge of giving up, but my beautiful little girl wouldn’t let me and I believe led me to you because I Was now ready to face myself and learn to take responsibility for all my decisions, thoughts and emotions. I am so grateful for you, it unbelievable. You give me hope for the whole world, and yes am an empath...I was a sensitive child and the only way I knew to deal with the happpening was to shutdown. I love you both for your work.

For me, it isn't a matter of not wanting to be bothered, or simply wanting others to love me, but in theatrical school I was trained never to be satisfied with any of my achievements and to realise that I can always do better, which in a way is ok if it means having a drive, but for years I had felt no right to love myself as I needed others approval first as my own opinion didn't count. Life's different now though, Thank you so much both of you. Yvonne xx

Doing the Golden Thread I remember being told “what would others think” so often and also the fear that how I acted was the reason nobody would like me. If I seemed confident, I felt criticism so therefore I stopped trying. I’ve allowed my life to be dictated by anyone’s approval because I wanted to be liked but now I’m alone, don’t trust people and it feels safer. Self fulfilling? Lots to unravel and work on.

My mother and my last living brother both died in the past few months and I lost my job due to Coronavirus. I'll be 64 in a couple weeks and I feel so depressed. In fact, I've always been a depressed person since around 11 or 12 yrs. old. My parents and entire family structure was negative and critical as I was growing up. Now that they're all gone and I'm the only one left, I'm starting to see how my parents constant put downs and expressions of disapproval toward myself and my younger brother, was trickled down from them and into my two oldest brothers who took on the same critical negative nature toward we two younger siblings. My parents appeared to promote this poor treatment from our older siblings. I know I suffer from very low self-esteem and I know my younger brother did as well. Unfortunately, he died 27 years ago from the AIDS Virus at the age of 34. I think he sought love wherever he could find it and became quite promiscuous, causing his early death. As for myself, I've been divorced for 40 years and seem to feel I'm not good enough for anyone.

I had a emotionally healthy childhood where we were affirmed as kids for who we were and not what we did. Our parents were very affirming and positive and loving. . I ran into trouble as an adult bc I expected everyone to love me and affirm me in that way and when they didn’t then it meant that something was wrong with me. Untangling the 2 in my mind as I went into emotional adulthood from emotional childhood was true freedom! Thank you for your wisdom!! You both explain things so clearly!

This is great. Ive listened to it a couple times l think. Helped things click if l missed it the first time. One of the problems l have is taking peoples critisism or comments personally. I like that you brought this up in your talk. Instead of feeling defensive and shutting down l now have a way to move forward and ask why they feel that instead of jumping to a worse case senario in my head. Thank you.

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for your comments, it sounds like you are doing a great job. Now continue with the Golden Thread Process work and ask "WHY....?" I really appreciate you two. And I make myself feel anxious by judging that you are often interrupting and talking over each other. Please do a video on how to be a better listener and communicator, how to not talk over each other, how to not interrupt each other. I’d sincerely like to hear how you would give advice on this. And it is also me wanting to manipulate you both into taking a breath, slowing down, and listening to understand, rather than listening to respond. Thank you. Please.

@@WuWeiWisdom Dr. David, I am new to your channel and I have listened to a couple of your videos in the last couple of days, and I appreciate what you have to say, you make a lot of sense. I want to continue listening but the interruptions even the small ones are so distracting that I find myself feeling frustrated and not wanting to listen anymore. We are supposed to listen to hear not listen to find reasons to speak and I feel like the latter is what is going on...I hope this tapers off in more current videos. I feel badly saying this, I don't want to hurt feelings, but I do want to get the message.

Jesus was perfect in his Fathers eyes and yet Jesus was very critiqued, criticized and lied about by many, and even abandoned by his close friends. Since that happened to him as a human, we should expect that will happen to imperfect humans. I'm trying to drill this in. I'll be happier. Thx for this wonderful video! Hi guys! First of all I absolutely ADORE your videos and I am so grateful there are people like you who help others so much! I have this question: David said that on a subconscious level we believe we SHOULD care what other people think (otherwise, we wouldn't care) and if we do, we should be honest about it and say "yes, I do care". I am saying this now and I will tell you why. I think it is important what people think of you because if people see you in a good way that brings a lot of opportunities to you - a lot of jobs (even if you are not perfectly qualified, your confidence might get you the job you want), a lot of friends, a lot of dates etc etc. And now you will say "this was attracted in your life because of the law of attraction, you had a good vibration and this came to you, so therefore this was what YOU thought of yourself''. However, if I go confidently to an interview because I internally know that other interviews have gone well before and I already have what it takes, therefore I validate myself and don't expect the new job to give me validation and I let go of the outcome - this is again the opinion of OTHER people. It is again coming from the external - I know PREVIOUS employers liked me so therefore I can be confident with the new ones. How can you possibly have an opinion about yourself which is NOT AT ALL related to feedback from others and how much they liked you? (for example how can you think that you are a good brother/sister if you don't reflect on how your brother/sister feels about you? Or how would you visualise a successful interview if you don't know AT ALL how it feels like to have people to like you? I've been wondering where the line is about how much we care/listen to from others for a while now. Thanks a lot and keep up the great work

This video's from three years ago, but in case comments are still being read, I find that alot of traits brought up in the videos touch on watch I've come to know as codependency. I only realized about a 28 months ago that I have codependency. Since then I've been working towards overcoming that codependency. And, because I've taken huge strides in overcoming my codependency, I then find it possible to implement your counsel and advise on working through inner child concerns, not caring what others think/feel/say/ behave towards me, etc. But, I know that if I hadn't done self-work and therapy specific to overcoming codependency (and anxiety/depression) that it would be near impossible for me to implement your advice and counsel. What can the person(s) listening to your videos practically do in order to get to a point of having "rewired" their brains, etc. and then be able to take hold of and do/implement/use your advice and counsel? Thank you, you guys are great!

Thank you for this valuable video. I hope through some one-to-one sessions next year I can start reversing all my negative beliefs and self doubts. In the meantime though, I wondered if you could point me in the right direction with golden thread work? I never fully believed I was unlovable - on the contrary, I thought I was warm, caring and compassionate. But recently, I’ve come to realise there’s something inherently wrong with me because very few people seem to really warm to me. I’m very sensitive and easily offended, always expecting people mean the worst. In the process of questioning why this is, I’ve been trying to do golden thread work and can only get this far: Q - why don’t you think people warm to you? A - because they seem to respond more positively to others by comparison Q - what facts do you have to support that perception? A - they don’t invite me to things, laugh at my jokes or show an interest in me as I do with them, and always seem to say something negative, derogatory or critical of me. It’s like they can see something unpleasant in me that I can’t see myself - or am possibly aware if but in denial about! And that’s as far as I can get with it, which just leaves me looking for further evidence that I must be a dreadful person not worthy of warmth. Where should I go next with my questioning?
@WuWeiWisdom6 жыл бұрын
Hi Lara, Thanks! You make lots of points here, so let’s start the ‘Golden Thread Process’ at your first statement. You are saying that when someone does not warm to you that means there is something inherently wrong with you. So, there are plenty of people that do not warm to me, find me too direct etc. etc. ...In your belief and world-view model, what do you think is inherently wrong with me? Should I also start creating ‘red-light’ feelings? :) David
@TheInimitableMissP6 жыл бұрын
Wu Wei Wisdom Thanks David, I knew you’d say something like that! :-) No, there’s definitely nothing wrong with you - and I appreciate directness! But I can’t imagine other people experiencing the kind of perceived indifference I seem to get... I’m just far too sensitive aren’t I? Hence booking a session! :-)

David, I agree that it's my responsibility to take care of myself and to love myself and not expect others to validate me. I also agree that by wanting others to keep me emotionally safe, I am wanting to create an emotionally safe world for myself where others are responsible for keeping me feeling ok. (God, I just read that sentence and I realise how unrealistic my expectations of others are!). You mentioned that the inner child gets emotionally frozen in childhood and doesn't know what to do - that sums me up to a tee. I feel stuck and unsure of how to reverse nearly 62 years of continually criticising, comparing and judging myself. As you say, I am at the bottom of the cliff getting smashed by the car rolling down the hill. I now feel like I'm trying to heave the 'car' off my shattered body and I don't quite have the strength to do it. Can you provide some advice on how I develop the strength to do this and how I thaw out my frozen inner child, or am I making it more complicated than necessary?

@@WuWeiWisdom thank you David for your response. I have already joined the private FB group. I have been bingeing on the Wu Wei Wisdom KZbin’s and Podcasts and have finally begun to see how trapped and frozen my inner child is, and how much she is choosing to be a ‘victim’ of my own thoughts and beliefs. She is scared of growing up and taking responsibility. I’m starting to get to know her. Hi Maria - glad you enjoyed the video! Where there any particular elements that resonated with you or got you thinking? Alex x
@marianeal31646 жыл бұрын
Yes Alex, the whole video resonated with my childhood, becoming a young person, then matured and realising that one can't control the opinions of others, and of course we all have the right to our opinion about any thing or any body. Yes David, one look from my mother and I shivered from top to bottom wondering what I had done wrong as to manners. Not that I was ill treated, she was just very strict and one would get a lecture as to where we went wrong and why it was wrong. I still agree with that as I have always wanted to know the reason for being scolded. BUT! life has taught me that approval from others is not valuable to me unless I approve of myself. So David's mantra as well as a similar saying from Wayne Dyer that I read years ago 'What Other People Think of Me is None of my Business' is so good to be reminded of, because it is true; because others have the right to their opinion of me that's still their business not mine. Very valuable video :-)

I don’t have self love because when my loving and adoring Dad died on my 9th birthday, my critical mom had full control of my emotions since then. She daily told me how wrong/ bad I was for saying or acting certain ways, she claimed to know what I was thinking by the “look” on my face, and as young as 9-10 she told me that I look like satan. She assumed I was being critical even as a child, she never believed me when I told her how I really felt, and what I was thinking, and the way I was feeling was fear- I was terrified of everything, afraid if someone was out if my sight, they would disappear forever, like my Dad did. My mom always made my brother the “right one”, and I was considered very bad. I honestly do hate myself, I don’t know how to pull up thoughts of kindness to myself, where would I start? When have I ever heard anything good? I do look for external validation because I see nothing good in myself. I’ve lost friends because if I don’t feel “good” about the interactions each day with them, my automatic thoughts are that they don’t like me anymore, and I don’t blame them, I don’t like me! I do want love from other people, I feel I have the capacity to love others and I have had some great love in my life. I hear so often that therapists and psychiatrists say that you can’t love others if you don’t love yourself, but that’s not true, I have loved deeply, just not myself. As a child, every time I had a good thought or good feeling about myself, whether I verbalized it or not, my mom would verbally attack me, telling me how it’s a sin to feel good about yourself, etc. She was verbally lethal. When I was 14, she sent me away to boarding school, where I knew no one, and I was re-terrorized. I was frozen in my dorm room, not going to the cafeteria to eat and not going to classes. The school nurse brought me food from the cafeteria, and I could hardly eat it. It’s like I couldn’t swallow. I don’t remember even being able to talk. I’m 55 now, and I still have nightmares about that situation, it was more than one boarding school- total of 7 schools in 4 years, she constantly pulled me from one and dropped me in another, each time leaving me there. I didn’t feel of any value, and I still don’t. About 10 years ago, I almost succeeded in ending my life, and even up to 5 years after that experience, my first thoughts when I would wake up was anger that my attempt to end my life was not successful. I have seen therapists and psychiatrists since the 90’s, and I feel that it’s only postponing the inevitable. I would like to be happy, to be satisfied with myself and my life, but after my attempt- I lost everything, my job, my apartment, I had been divorced about 3 years prior, the IRS emptied my bank account, I had nothing. I moved across the country, moved in with my mom and stepdad, and it took me about a year before I was emotionally ready to work, and I’ve held down a good job now for 8 years, and I take care of my parents, my mom should be in a nursing home, she is complete care, my stepdad needs help too. Sometimes I feel crazy for putting myself back under their roof, and it doesn’t help my feelings of being hated, both externally and internally. My mom will tell me she loves me now, but I have a block there, and I don’t believe her. There has been too much damage done. I’ve wanted to move away from this area, start my own life again, I have tremendous fear if not being able to live on my own, financially. I have fear if being alone, but in honesty, I am alone here too- i do not share any ideas or opinions at home, because my mom always attack’s and tells me how wrong I am. I enjoyed this video especially, and I will need to listen to it over and over, and also need to learn how to love and accept myself, that’s my big problem. Thank you for all you are doing, I’m listening!

As I watch this I think of a time when I was about 17 and got involved with religion who taught me I was a sinner and didn’t deserve forgiveness and that I deserved to burn in hell instead. That teaching sent me into illness and years of stress and depression and rage after repressing it for years and years. I find it hard to stay on the thread of whys. (The Golden Thread) so much “baggage” has build up. So many serious actions now buried. Whee do I begin 👍

Hi Colin, thanks for your comments and the share. Do not underestimate the steps you have already made! Just having that realisation is amazing, well done! I deal with these issues daily. with my clients. Those childhood religious indoctrinations are very common, nonetheless, they are extremely powerful and challenging to change. The starting point is: are they TRUE? Do you really believe you are a sinner? If there is even a slight doubt, that’s where you start the ‘Golden Thread Process’ work and speak to the part of your mind we label the ‘Inner Child’ because he needs, love, help, support and above all emotional education. You could consider joining our Facebook community where several people are on similar journeys: facebook.com/groups/wuweiwisdomcommunity/ Or watch more of our videos where we go through the process. I also offer 1-2-1 support sessions via video call to get you on the right track (just comment here if you'd like more info on these). Thank you for watching our videos and taking the time and trouble to comment. David

Wu Wei Wisdom Thanks David. I will join the community. I love the way you use green light and red light rather than use particular feeling names. I will most definitely be looking out for more of the videos on the golden thread process, and if all that fails I will be chapping on your door lol 😆

Thank you for the video. You both have the gifts of insight and communication. My question is about the answers to the final why question. I would think for most the final answers are: fears of abandonment, worthlessness, rejection, incompetence etc. learned as a child or perhaps innately-founded. Do you agree?
