Stop child support

There are so many abused children & so many in the foster care system. How about taking care of those children that are already here. There so much more than just having a child for the sake of "procreation." Be strong brother. Been there. When my back payments were caught up I received a check from child support. Later that day I got a call from the ex and was given an attitude over the phone. No more free trips on my daughter's money. She was passed and told her daughter ask ur father lol. Priceless

Does the child have a roof over their head , is there heat & hydro & water in the house/apt , is the food in the fridge , does the child have clothes on their back and shoes on their feet , does the child have the things they need for school , are their clothes clean , does the child have shampoo and soap to wash with , does the child have toilet paper to wipe with ? I got full custody of my daughter when she was 15 her mom had it prior from age 7 to 14 and I paid child support. When I got her they still took child support out of my paycheck. The only way it would stop would be if my ex would go to court and file a motion to have it stopped. Do you think she actually did that? Nope the only way I got it to finally stop was getting a job in another state.

I worked with a guy who was in his 60s and still paying child support for his sons who were in their early 30s. He said payments used to terminate once the child reached 18, but he said that Massachusetts and the Obama administration changed it to when the children finish college. He said they had both been out of college for a while but the states still didn’t care. He was living in his van when the state pulled his drivers license for “failure to pay child support”.

Then he didn't tell you the whole story. He obviously owed back child support and that is why he was still paying in his 60s. The Obama administration had nothing to do with it. In most states, child support is only required if the child is in college until age 22 or graduation, whichever comes first. It has been that way for decades. But if you owe back support, then you will pay until it is paid no matter the ages involved. So let's get our facts straight before we post this stuff, ok?

In NJ its lehgally age 19. But, the judge can extend it to age 23 and u have to help pay for college if they go to college under a rule (Not Law) called "In the best interest of the Child". Its just a scam........ nothing else

I don't know about other states but in Texas my court order stated that I pay child support until 18 or graduation, whichever came later but not to exceed 21 years old. Luckily all my kids graduated on time or early!

No one can believe this... In Peru (South America) if the child is studying at university, the father or mother will have to support him or her until he or she is 26 or 28 years old. Another law is that if the parents are very old and do not have much income, it is the "obligation" of the children to give them support of their own free will or through the family court, in case they cannot cover these obligations, you have to take care of them... yeap

Mississippi considers 21 the age of majority, but you can vote, buy cigarettes, and join the military at 18. You can not sign a legally binding contract (apartments, buy house, get married) without parental consent. It’s weird.

I was in a relationship for a couple years with this girl who had 2 kids by the same guy. She was with another guy before I met her and he thought that it was his kid, he signed the birth certificate and didn’t think nothing of it. 5-6 years goes by and he starts to realize the kid looks nothing like him, so he starts to question her about it. He finds out that the kid isn’t his and she only got with him cause the kids dad was in jail. He breaks up with her and moves out. Then she took him to court for child support. He had to pay for the next 15 years to a kid that wasn’t his. When the kid turned 18 the mom wanted him to go to college so she could still collect. The kid didn’t want to go so she kicked him out the week he turned 18. Meanwhile the kids real father got sentenced to 30 years for meth.

Back child support goes even after the kid is 18. So that means he didn't pay while working and able. Then he filed for disability and the state has his info and started collecting the back child support. If you owe child support it doesn't just go away. If you owe and can't pay you contact the court, they look at your income (or lack of) and adjust it. If you don't want to pay child support get 50-50 custody or cover all their school and medical expenses. That way your ex gets no money. You just log it! Haircuts, dental, eye exam, school supplies, clothes, food .. etc. They need to teach this in school.

The second your dependent turns 18 the VA notifies you 2 months in advance that they will not be paying the $320 because they turned 18. The amount of time or if ever the VA will back pay you for mistakes is insane, months if not years.

In VA child support can be extended until 23 if the child immediately goes to college after high school. If I'm not mistaken, when recieving SS/disability, you get a set amount for yourself plus a separate amount for each child which does not come out of what you actually receive.

Back in 1962 when my,parents divorced, Dad’s Child Support ($135 for 2 kids!) went to age 18 unless we were in college. Mom gave me $30/month and kept the the rest for herself - even then in 1965 $30/month didn’t go very far! I got married a couple years later and I have no idea if he was still paying for two kids (my sister was 4 years younger!’) or not - it would t have surprised me if our Mom still tried to collect as her hate was huge! And yes, she was the one cheating - still pisses me off!

She never spent the rest of my half of Dad’s Chukchi support in anything for me! I had to buy my own boots when the snow came % went to college in Flagstaff, AZ and had to buy my own gloves all from this lousy $30. I did have a meal ticket for our dining hall - ugh! But it was food. Meanwhile my sister was still at home and in high school so I’m sure she bought things for her! Oh, and every single thing I didn’t take to college (in those days we couldn’t bring anything with us except our clothing and a typewriter!) disappeared! Mom was pissed that I didn’t go to Arizona State and live at home - would have been the death of me!

I'm willing to bet the kid was still in high school and that's why he still had to pay. He was told false info from friends that it stops when the child turned 18, but that's not the case. Also the custodial parent is supposed to send in paperwork to the child support office showing the child is still in school (K-12). If the child graduates early or the child is 17 when the child graduates you still have to pay until they turn 18.

My kids are not 18 yet but I am in basically the same situation except my child support is right under $3k a month and based on a base pay of $28,000 a year. I have not received a full paycheck since I was in my early 20s. I owe over a hundred grand in back support and the state wont give me a modification without a lawyer which the cheapest I have found so far wants $10,000 down before they will take the cases. I also have a family at home and a 13 year old daughter who lives with me along with my wife. I definitely feel what this man has gone through.

Did the judge or OAG mention that the would be generating a .666 per dollar per month revenue stream off your court ordered payment. They left that little detail out, didn't they. Welcome to Title IV D reimbursement. That's right, for every thousand dollars you pay her in backdoor alimony, the state gets $666 per month or $1,998 in your case. Remember, it's for the children. It's a scam. Title IV D can be found in US code 42 section 666. Notice how 666 keeps showing up. It's as if they knew what they were doing was evil

By those numbers you are paying more than you make. It may be different depending on your state but in Texas a revue for modification can been done every three years or if there is a change in income. A mediator does the initial review. It won't even go to court unless a your case qualifies for a modification but an agreement between the custodial and non custodial parent can not be reached. 34 states collect interest for the arrears (back support) and it doesn't even going to your kids.

@J55S I promise I have tried and have actually been talked nasty to by the caseworkers. I even have letters sent back to be saying I didn't make deadlines that were dated after the denial. In Missouri they can only take half of my check after taxes so I still get something but not anything near enough to live or support my family. Im also almost $90k behind because of it. It's been almost 18 years of fighting it and have lost this whole time.

the majority of those cases is because the gaurdian in question didn't go to the court to update the situation. It's not on the court if you don't inform them of a new living situation. I do agree the courts are messed up but not in that way. They're just set up very confusingly to let people slip into these cracks all the time.

Stop calling it child support, its ex-wife support. At least 90% goes to the women and 10% to the child needs. To receive it the mother should have to show proof of every purchase to ensure zero of the money is being used on herself including food, housing, cloths, 100% needs to go to the child.

I paid 680$ child support in Illinois for 15 years. My daughter lived with Grandma and not the mom. The mom lived like a queen and blew my 680$ a month on magazines and cloths and cars .. i lived on 2 ramen meals a day for 15 years. I quit my job and will never work again. I have nothing to show for 15:yrs of hard work. Just nothing... Not paying taxs the rest of my life .. one payment for 15 years was enough for me....

Until 18 or up to 21 if in college, or trades school or if special needs. Most times, you have asked the court system to stop the child support yourself, or it continues to take child support out. My husband never did get his child support over payments back. It's been decades ago.

If he’s drawing SSDI, then the Social Security Administration (SSA) should’ve been paying to his son, and his out of pocket liability stopped! When my ex got his disability (he had also been military), the SSA paid my daughter almost $700/month, and the last payment was made the month she turned 18. Not only did she get this in place of traditional child support, but his step daughter (who lived with him and his new wife) got the exact same amount as our daughter, until she turned 18! I think some questions need to be asked to the SSA! He and his daughter are entitled to some payback! Some BIG payback!

I used to work child support, if you are paying and your income goes down you can file for a reduction. If it goes down and it's temporary like seasonal workers you can get a temporary reduction with a beginning and end. If you owe back child support, you can negotiate a settlement with the parent or state. I helped with this all the time.
