What a lively soul he is!! Such a joy to watch his presentation :-) trying to get more out of working with acrylic… I never tried to use it like oil paint. But I just thought it was relegated to graphic style art, so thank you for this!

I’ve been using Golden Open acrylics for all year (except winter) for plein air. I love them. The slower drying and use of the Sta-wet palette gives me enough time to paint and take home a nearly dry painting. I’m more impressionistic so I don’t blend that much anyway. I just use the thinner that goes with them and water.

Awesome, Charlie. I really learned a lot today thanks to your great explanations. Got a portable easel two years ago but have been afraid to take it outside. Now I feel more confident keeping in mind all your helpful tips. Can’t wait for spring 😁 cheers, Nora from Vernon

My early training started with acrylics and I stumbled into the scrumbling broken color. Moved on to oils for years. Now 30 years later I am exploring water soluble oils. Love the speed forced by acrylic!

I started painting in acrylics as a kid back in the 70’s and at some point decided to learn oils. I’ve dabbled since but never really mastered the medium. Recently I’ve seen several acrylic artists who have blown me away. I started to think about trying acrylic again, mainly because I do a lot of glazing and would like to work faster and I love the crisp edges. This was a great demonstration of how to achieve those effects. Looking forward to trying again! Thanks Charlie 😊

I'm on holiday in USA atm with my box of acrylic..i literally was complaining about to my other half about them whilst trying to paint at the Grand Canyon! I usually paint with oils but am persevering with the acrylics whilst I'm here!

Acrylics are a versatile medium as we can use them like oils or like watercolours. Personally I prefer the properties of oil and water colours on their own . I do however use them all. Hello from Vancouver Island BC

Last time I did a little acrylic sketch I was reminded why I left that medium. Had to mix and paint insanely fast, race against time, and didn’t get consistant results, AND it dried too dark AND it collapsed and looks flat when dry. I’ll use it for quick sketches and tests but I will probably never use it as a serious medium again. Oil has all the qualities I want and more.

So Eric why don’t you make videos with Gil Dellinger, Jed Dorsey, Angela Bandurka, Diana Shyne, and any other acrylic artist that creates beautiful paintings. I believe they would sell. Acryluc artists are hungry for information in their medium. All the instruction I have ever gotten is from oil painters and then it’s up to me to try translate it to acrylics.

Are there different "Qualities" of Acrylic Paints?
@CharlieEaston Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, more expensive brands should have more light-fast pigment, and a higher pigment load in the paint. Cheaper ones have more binder and water and therefore you need to apply it in even greater quantities!

People who like acrylics obviously don't live in Arizona. I have tried everything to fight dry paint. We Arizonians probably have the driest skin in the world too and we haven't found a solution for that either. LOL. But I shall be patient and try to enjoy acrylics. Thanks Charlie

Ha, yes, keep you spray bottle handy, and paint FAST (but yes, I hear you, sometimes it just ain't possible!)
@rnkim2564 Жыл бұрын
I like a spray bottle of liquitex slo-dri mixed with the max appropriate AMOUNT water on label and I spritz this on wet paint blobs and plastic pallets... it also allows the paint your putting on canvas etc to stay workable a bit longer... watercolor paper is a bit more difficult unless youre using really wet washes
