Because we have been programmed to think we need to take care of the rest of the world. WE ARE THE WORLD. In fact the US population regularly gives more in VOLUNTARY aid given privately to other countries than any other country. Most of it is humanitarian and religious in nature. I am not arguing that it is wrong, in fact I think it is great. But we are doing it voluntarily. I don't think the government needs to choose where it goes. (The voluntary non tax portion of it, if I choose to donate additional to Haiti, or Zimbabwe, or whatever)

We have so many problems in our own country that we need to fix before we can help other countries with their problems. President Trump said that America can’t just fix it for them and they need to do their fair share in order to heal themselves and end the violence, and now he’s leading by example and showing them how to do that by keeping his campaign promises.
