First of all, I believe anyone should be with whomever they want. Everyone has the right to be happy without worrying who may accept their choice or not. Whether it's with a person of color or the same sex. Nobody's business but the ones who are in a relationship. Secondly, I have 2 mixed children, two white children and 7 out of 10 of my grandchildren are mixed (black and white). I, myself am mixed. I have German, Irish, Indian (Cherokee) and French. Personally I don't think any of us are all one color or race anymore. People are people. I see one's color is different than my skin color but I don't feel I'm any better than anyone else. I'm not one of those white women who, just bc I've been with a black man, that I try to talk any differently to anyone else. I talk the same and my oldest daughter said to a friend, "I'm glad my mother doesn't talk ghetto or try to pretend she's someone she's not." I've always said that no matter how many black men you've been with, or how many mixed kids you may have, you can never be black. You're still and always will be WHITE. It embarasses me when I see a white woman trying to sound black or try to think they are bad asses. JUST BE YOURSELF. Nobody is impressed with a fake ass person.

I love it when Trisha said her stepfather brought her up not to see color. When my youngest daughter was in gradeschool, her class did a project where they had to write something they loved about each of their parents. My daughter wrote, "I love that my mom taught me not to see color." (I still have it)It was by example, because at that point, we hadn't ever talked about race. BTW, my mom is White and my dad is Mexican, and I just raised my children how my parents raised me.

I've dated outside my race since the mid '70's. It's always been about a person's ethics, morals, and character as to whether I was interested, but never about their race.

When you limit the children your kids can play with, like only letting your children play with their own color (or not let your child play with their own color), a parent is really cheating them out of having to get along with people they will be having to work with in the future. Why can't all people just get along? We don't have to like everything about what the other person believes in or do. Or that we'll agree with each other. But we can teach our kids to be kind to one another. I was 9 and played with the kids near us and I remember my mother telling my brother to tell me to come home. He looked like he wanted to be anywhere but in the position of telling me to come home. I asked him why can't I play with the black children bc I just love everyone (still do) and I was only 9 at the time. My mother had a friend/co-worker she was friends with. Why couldn't I have friends of different color than I was? So I didn't understand racism back then bc the school was both black and white students, so I didn't see why I could play with the neighbor's grandchildren. I would have to sneak and go play with them. I was excited every time summer came back around bc I would get to play with them again. People need to get over the color of one's skin. No one is any better than anyone else. When you point your finger at someone of another color, you've got three fingers pointing back at you. So I think that makes the finger pointer to be worst than what they are pointing at. People should be treated all the same.

"Star" is African American so for her to get mad because Trisha called her an African American woman is ridiculous. Like the young lady, I did once hate my skin and hated being black and it took ALOT of self love. Watching her, I realize how stupid I sounded. It’s gonna take ALOT of self-reflection and healing in order to see how beautiful being black is!

My youngest son, who is half Dutch and half Australian, has been going out with a Chinese girl for a few years. They still haven't told her parents that my son is her boyfriend, because they hate white people. I don't know how things will go in the future. One day they will have to tell her parents.

Oke, my partner is the same race as me, but my best friends are both of different races. I love them, not because they are of a different race, but for what they are, for who they are, for their friendship and for their love. for me it doesn't stop at the color of their skin. that doesn't determine anything! If you generalize so much that all colored or all white people are good or not, that says more about your preference and experience.
