Finger Sucking is a harmful behavior that can create a host of health problems for your child. Fortunately, breaking the habit has never been easier or more comfortable than with the TGuard AeroFinger.
Each AeroFinger treatment kit comes with everything you need to break the habit in 30 days or less. Most see results in as little as 3 days.
Start the treatment when the child is stress-free and healthy. Children tend to suck their fingers when they are stressed, or want to relax, so during the treatment, try to keep them happy and put them to bed only when they are tired.
Create a treatment plan that involves rewards for each day that the child does not suck their fingers. Every little bit of motivation helps, and will boost your chances of success!
You may see some crankiness or resistance at first, but this is normal, and usually goes away within the first week as the child learns to cope without finger sucking.
Using the device is simple. Before putting it on, be sure to rinse it with a gentle soap and warm water. The device can be worn on any two adjacent fingers. Simply slide the device onto the fingers, making sure the tubes sit as low as possible. Thread a bracelet through the holes that correspond to the area of the wrist just below the hand.
Thread the bracelet through the same set of holes on the opposite side as well. The fit should be snug: you should not be able to slide the tubes up more than 1/4“. Be sure not to over-tighten the bracelet, as this can cut circulation. Snap the bracelet shut to lock it.
Never ask the child if he or she can remove the device, as this sends the wrong message and can encourage damaging behavior.
Finish the assembly by carefully cutting the excess band. Always use safety rounded scissors to cut the bracelet, and dispose of any excess bracelet material right away.
Do not allow the child to play with unused bracelets. Keep any unused bracelets out of reach, and dispose any used bracelet parts immediately.
Clean the device daily by removing it and washing it with gentle soap and warm water. Be sure to inspect the skin to make sure the device is not causing any chafing; a properly adjusted device will not cause any marks.
Your child can play, write and carry on with normal activities, all while wearing the tGuard AeroFinger.
Track your child’s progress using our handy sticker chart. Be sure to check on the child often, especially at night, to make sure that the treatment is progressing as normal.
Once you’ve reached the 30 day mark, you should have noticed that the child no longer puts their fingers in our around their mouth, nor do they chew on anything. These are signs that the device is safe to remove. Now you can celebrate!
