Great definition of getting stuck and different possible solutions (four of them) on how to get unstuck seldom talked about elsewhere. Very helpful for those like myself who had no idea they had a problem of being stuck until I analyzed my swing using the criteria you set out for getting stuck. Certainly has improved my ball striking.

Nice, straightforward video. The real problem with most golfers, right here...getting stuck.

I just came across your channel. My 14 yr. old son has this problem, he fires his hips, club waaaay behind him, and sometimes bangs balls so far out to the right that we never find them. He's very flexible, and I was told that this is a common issue with youth golfers. Any suggestions for him? Love this video.

So in reviewing the video, I notice that you said "If you keep the lead arm at the same angle to your shoulders" when referring to the arm close to the chest issue. So with regard to Champ as mentioned previously he is obviously changing that angle by dropping the lead shoulder and dropping the chest early and therefore I agree with what you said completely. I had already noticed the weird release pattern with Walker's swing when I was studying it. I came to the same conclusion, that his arms were too close together with lead arm pinned to his chest on the way down and the club way open. Then you can see his head snap back through impact as he goes into arching his back to close the club face. Good observation!

Is Nick saying you need to pull your lead arm off your chest during the downswing and more out to the right of the target (for a LH golfer) and not keep it connected to your chest?

correct! 👊🏽

So your saying don't clear your hips or shoulders on the downswing? doesn't that go against everything we are being told to do?
@timothypollock83583 жыл бұрын
S. you should absolutely clear hips and shoulders. PGA tour average is hips open 35 degrees and shoulders open 25 at impact. Long hitters could be more like H 45-50 and S 20-25. He is just describing a drill that is an exaggerated motion to counter the things that cause getting stuck which are shoulders closed, hips open and shaft far back (lead arm still close to chest) when you are well into the downswing. If you don't get "stuck", this drill would not apply to you. Hope this helps.

Your hips and shoulders have the 2 least amounts of distance to move. Arms and hands have the longest. Basically if you fire the two that have the least distance to move immediately then you will more than likely get your arms "stuck" behind you. People with the hips and shoulders firing first should probably feel like their arms are going first, even though that's not the case

You've created a bit of a strawman with the arm close to the chest claim. Cameron Champ does hold or possibly decrease that angle for about 30 to 40 percent of the way down to the ball, especially with the driver. He does this by having a large hip turn on the backswing and a very slow rate of the lead arm crossing the chest going back (wide powerful turn). He then drops the the lead shoulder and the chest on the downswing with the clubhead falling behind the rotation of the upper body starting down. If you have rapid chest drop and lead shoulder drop at the very start of the downswing the angle of the lead arm steepens as it moves toward the ball and slides down the torso (arm drop) which means that the arm does not move towards the ball as fast and does not get far enough out to cause a problem especially if the arms started further from the body. After halfway back to the ball the left arm moves extremely rapidly away from the chest through impact and beyond. With the driver Champ starts the swing with the club further from his body which means the the effect described above is increased due to the flatter plane and the consequent greater flattening of the shaft as the clubhead falls behind the upper body producing amazing lag. I have studied this swing and have been able to copy and understand it (among many others) and I believe it is the most efficient swing for power in golf ( it has some drawbacks in other areas ).
