It's a bit ironic that the Microsoft guy isn't mentioning that Copilot for M365 can already do all of this. With one exception. The Data Types dropdown functionality. That's far more intuitive in this app than in Excel. But the rest, Copilot works super well for already. What Copilot isn't quite ready for yet, is more complex analysis, and even that is already just about to hit everyone with the new Copilot in Python for Excel.

@BBKing1977 copilot for m365 is not free. It's paid for (the consumer version would be called Copilot Pro). I'm not talking about the public free Microsoft Copilot. Don't blame me for MS's ridiculous naming conventions here. But yeah, Copilot for M365 is most definitely not using our data for stuff. I should know, I'm responsible for it at my company and we ran through governance, security, and auditing pretty hard on this thing.

I signed up, but when I read the fine print, it says that anything on their website is considered their intellectual property. Since I will be using their website and they don't make any distinction between my work (therefore my IP ) I am concerned about using this product. It also says that it can not be used for commercial purposes. If I make a spreadsheet that I then want to sell to my customers, clearly I should not use this product. Such a shame because I like the product, but I don’t see me using it and giving up the rights to my IP.

There may be an open source or commercial application that is available or under development that will be targeted for developers that will preserve the IP that they add to their GAI products. Based on your findings, this is a consumer product targeting Microsoft and Google Sheets users.

as an avid excel user. This application can only do basic reporting and graphics based on standard data. But don’t hold your breath if you’re trying to build anything complex.

I would like to know the limitations on the number of rows and columns because that's a major part of working with datasets. Excel has a limit of 1M rows and that too falls short sometimes for serious corporate organisations. Also, let us know any other limitations.

Thanks Kevin for this video. I would like to know if this AI tool can do everything that excel can do or what are the limitations. Perhaps that would be good to add to this video so we know what the downsides are without having to spend time investigating that.

Setting aside the obvious privacy concerns, I much prefer to know how my data is being manipulated by using my own formulas. Even with copilot, I would prefer it to help me write the formula I need, rather than just let it magically show me the data it thinks I want to see.

This is a great start and very exciting! I will definitely be keeping an eye on this and patiently waiting for it to becomes SOC, ISO, and GLBA compliant so I can try it out at work. In the meantime, I will have to play around and see if I can do anything neat with my personal finance workbook.

Surely, but projects like this give devs the creative freedom to innovate beyond the constraints of established tools like Excel while also lowering the barrier to entry when tools like Copilot continue to require pricey add-on licenses.

In the first example the price populated is not dynamic. If it changes in table 2 it will not update table 1. I’ll stick with V look up. It’s not hard at all.

My biggest concern with automation processes is the review process. Essentially, we are defaulting to believe every result. When data is not that big it is easy to review it manually, but when it is extensive we might not be that rigourous. Have anybody thought about it? If so what tips would you recommend?

The chart making abilities seem to leave a bit to be desired....I tried creating a Gantt chart using a very simple table (tasks, start date, end date) and it couldn't create it no matter how many different prompts I gave it.

I'm learning Excel out of interest and to keep my brain active to try and avoid dementia. I'm retired so i don't need to keep up for work purposes. Sure, i could learn AI to do spreadsheets, but Where's the fun in that? As for getting AI to do everything for you could eventually cost lots of well paid jobs in the not too distant future.

No I won't ditch formulas and functions... While I use AI, I only do it with non-essential data... 1. You have to be ok with another company keeping your data, and maybe training AI on it to use an online AI tool like that. 2. You also have to trust AI to give you the right answer, and/or actually do what you wanted. To my experience, it can do basic stuff, but I certainly wouldn't trust it with complex stuff, and calculations... Here's the thing: It can *predict* the answer, it does not do math well. Sometimes it's the right answer, sometimes it isn't. It may also remove or replace some of the data without warning, because it does not edit the document, or sections of the document, it kinda re-generates everything, and sometimes it assumes stuff or does not pay attention to all of it, especially with long data, and it's very hard to ketch the error.

I will always choose AI over manual labor and complex formulae, but only if I get accurate results. I already use AI extensively for writing code (Python, JS, C#, FoxPro, etc.)

Is the world ready for the tens of millions of job loses that are just around the corner ? Manufacturing has already lost millions of jobs to automation and robotics. A lot of people found jobs in the increasing services sector such as hospitality. Now they will be affected. Robot deliveries, robot cars etc So don't plan on a future as a taxi driver !

The title of this video is misleading. If you really want to be proficient with Excel, you can NOT rely on AI to always do the job for you. At best AI will help you speed things up and improve productivity, which is good of course.

no serious company upload their data to cloud or allow any ai that operates coneected to any servers outside the organization. at least that is case for Turkey. So many AI tools mostly a toy for youtubers.
