You come to realize music is a mental/emotional distraction more than anything. Delayed gratification will give lasting satisfaction.

@@flmct the only time I've got my earbuds on is when I'm actively working on music or playing a game. Listening music mindlessly daily is equally bad as mindlessly scrolling IG. It's all about the dopamine yk. It's one of the extreme state a person could actually get but we're not ready for the discussion ngl. When something is available everyday, if really loses its essence. The less often it's in your routine the more you appreciate when you listen to it.

I'd add that it's not just music but it's any kind of constant distraction - podcasts, putting a youtube video on while cooking or cleaning - if you can wean yourself off needing to have something on at all times, it's like a superpower. You don't realize how much it's dragging down your concentration and attention until you force yourself to quit it and only 'use' it sparingly, with intention

Exactly. So many people get caught into the trap of thinking they’re being productive by listening to “value” when in reality they’re ruining their mindfulness.

I understand what you're trying to say and I realize this video is for a specific audience. I listen to music everyday and It helps me to think deeper about my life and the people and things in my life. It helps me reminisce , it helps me think about situations and stimulates my imagination. When I'm frustrated music helps me to sit with my feelings like a form of therapy....BUT I also like sitting in silence sometimes and the peace and quiet is relaxing for me as well. Life is about BALANCE. Being extreme in one way or the other even if you think that going to that extreme is going to help improve your life is not healthy because it trains you to deny yourself pleasures and punish yourself for the sake improvement when in reality all you need is some damn DISCIPLINE.

Yes music can be more of a distraction than being helpful. There’s nothing wrong with using music at the gym or waiting at the bus stop because those places do not require concentration. But driving a car does require concentration and reading and dissecting information of a textbook requires more and more concentration.

Personally disagree with this. If it works for you it works for you. I think there’s time to shut off music like studying, but music can even make you want to get out of bed and clean your house, or workout. Those things are tedious, no point of not making them fun with music. Life’s about focus sure, but it’s also about making things easier and more fun to give us that drive to go harder. Like imagine telling someone in the NBA to stop listening to music before a game so they could focus?

FINALLY I FOUND MY PEOPLE. ok so i don't care if someone's gonna read this but let me tell you my story. I used to be depressed and at that time i listened sad music, my playlist was filled with depressing songs. Its because those songs helped me get my feelings out and also made me feel like I'm not alone. But after a year when i started getting out of that depressive state, i still had those songs in my playlist, and whenever i listened to them those depressive thoughts were back. Untill i actually realised that 50% of the problem was music. Also there's one more thing, just as positive affirmations make you feel confident, sad music works the same way. You don't know those people whose songs you are listening to, sometimes there may be some subliminal message in those music that you don't actually listen to but your subconscious mind does. Some artists add those things in order to make their music popular. I have not stopped listening to music entirely, i still do sometimes but now I'm more mindful about what I listen to. One thing that helps me is that i avoid music with lyrics, i go for classical instrumental kind of music. I haven't watched this video yet because as soon as i read the topic of video i was like thank god I'm not alone. Keep up the good content
