Anything that works consistently is good. For me, the club is soled in the middle of the stance, which places the ball slightly forward. Body alignment is a struggle, though I think it’s very important.

absolutely true.I am a low handicap player but I have always strugled with short puts.The paralel line and the one behind the ball seem two different lines , this is where the confusion starts.Regarding the ball position if I place it too much forward I tend to close the putter club head and the ball goes left

It's so different for each person. Learning that there is no "one size fits all" approach to golf!

Hello, from the Video picture you moved the ball from too far back to middle of your stance
@movebreathegolf29 күн бұрын
Probably the camera angle, the ball is definitely closer to my front foot.

Sorry Patrick, but “moving the ball a little further up in my stance” isn’t a proper fix. A fix needs to be repeatable every single time. I’m not suggesting you won’t get a few more putts in because you’re compensating for a left or right eye bias but it isn’t a cure. What happens if you move the ball a little too far up, or not far enough, you’re gonna miss. I’m suggesting the only fix for lining up putts consistently is to align the ball to the hole using the lines or makers name on the ball whilst standing behind it, then when you think you’ve got the alignment spot on walk back a few paces and check again. This repeatable technique on every putt will give you consistency in your alignment, after that you obvs then need to make the perfect stroke. I wish you all the bast in your exams. Cheers!

Even if you line up the ball lines perfectly, it still doesn’t address the topic at hand. The topic at hand is seeing a straight line from ball to hole. You can’t just line up square and put the ball in the middle of your stance and have your eyes over the ball. There is no standard. What’s being advocated here is that you should adjust your stance until your vision matches the straight line putt.

@@edu2857 Actually the topic at hand was “missing short putts” and I never advocated for placing the ball in the middle of your stance and neither did I suggest to have your eyes over the ball and I’m not sure what you mean by “There is no standard”. Everyone has a right or left eye bias therefore it’s almost impossible to line up perfectly whilst over the ball. I’m going to stick with my alignment method as it’s served me so well over the years and missing 3 footers is not something that I worry about. But, that may well also be down to the fact that I tend to practice my putting stroke a lot more than most players.

I agree that this isn't a "fix" as you say. This worked for me but may not work for someone else. I've also worked on my grip, my stroke, my green reading, and everything else involved with putting. This was just the easiest and most obvious change I made, and it had an immediate impact on my results.

Align ball as you say. Then you adjust setup until you SEE what you know is correct. That is repearable. Nothing worse than being over the ball and seeing it wrong and adjusting stroke or not trusting it and making a bad one. Another great exercise is to create a straight line with hole, tee at 10', and ball at 20'. Work eye position and setup until it LOOKS straight.
