The right way to mount it depends on your box... if the box is too small, inverting might help. A correctly sized box will sound best with the sub mounted the normal way.
@tyreeisvibin10 күн бұрын
Very correct ✅️
@monsterrun6 күн бұрын
Imagine a ballon filled with air at about 50% pressure. Now shove it down a box and push a big sub on top. That 50% pressured ballon is going to be 80% pressurized and will give you bad air compression. To get back to you at. Right size cabinets makes all the difference.

The correct term is inverted. Reverse would mean backwards. The reason for inverting a sub would be for more air space and motor cooling

4 of my 6 15"s are inverted.. can't see them anyway, way back in the blow thru. Sure can hear and feel them though. If you build the enclosure right, it doesn't matter.

With all the millions of differing 'designs' and personal preferences, it is down to what a speaker looks like more than what it sounds like with NO meter to test its levels. Anyone making the change is gonna say, 'Oh, yeah, it sounds great, now, and I haven't looked back'; If it looks like a weapon of mass destruction, its impression is gonna be one of awe and shock. Subs cool just fine, regardless, spider and VC noise add to the sound you hear when inverted and the frontal cone is to be aimed where the sound is GOING to, not the back side of it. Why would subs start being inverted other than in the last 10-15 years? Because manufacturers said 'Hey, if we make 'em look great when inverted, we'll sell more!' Hey, if it works, do it, lol - Likewise, if YOU think it sounds better and louder, then, that's what matters the most. I just know that I'll not be participating in the 'Invertolution', although PlexiGlass may be used extensively for viewing those Bad-Ass magnets & voicecoils in action, lol! I'd better see about that b4 I build...🤗

@TyreeLoner- There were too many variables with your test. If you want more accurate data, you would 1st need an accurate SPL Meter, then remove your enclosure in the rear with the 2 inverted woofers. Then test each 1 of these enclosures in the back, facing backwards, 1 @ a time. Please make sure that the inverted woofer is wired backwards as well= + wire from amp, needs to go to the inverted woofers -, & the - wire from the amp needs to go to the inverted woofers +. Then for testing the SPL, ✔️ the Db @ 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 , & 80 Hz, holding each test tone for 3 seconds on every test tone (as it takes a few seconds for the Db score to pressurize properly). I would guess that the inverted woofer setup, would score a little higher Db, in the 20 Hz to 45 Hz range, & the regular mounted woofer setup, would score a little higher Db, in the 50 Hz to 80 Hz range!?

very nice vid. i did some testing myself with my zvx 15. and in the box its in now, its louder at 23hz mounted normally. but with it inverted it was able to go as low as 16hz. mounted normally the drop off was 18hz. but its more of a deeper bass mounted normally bc the box is already a chungus of a box. but when i do get my other 3 zvx subs in im def gonna invert them because i like my subs ass up. gonna get some custom rubbers on the motor too, to make them look more sexy.

Someone already said the normal is louder... however its because of compression (baffle like) of the basket... If u want serious bass do research into horns. Watt vs watt way louder but enclosures are bigger...
@nnperformance769 күн бұрын
Other comments say it changed the internal volume to much? If I'm not missing anything it was a 2db difference.. thats huge for a small displacement difference??? However both will have different fz repone at other fz louder or less loud with the same power... good video

Great suggestion 🙌🙌 but horn enclosures are not my style to go with I'm a more fan of the low bass side and the horn enclosures usually play the higher bass frequency

@zainrei491710 күн бұрын
"Which is the best" is wrong. But the correct is "which is more accurate" in terms of box volume and port frequency calculation. An inverted sub like what you said does not give more space but more like does not takes up space. Meanwhile a normal mount subwoofer will have inaccurate port frequency "unless" you have already solved the port frequency along with the space taken by the subwoofer body/motor. In terms of loudness. Your test is quite unfair to the inverted sub since your seat is deflecting soundwaves backwards meanwhile the normal mount sub has the seat folded making the db meter "hear" it louder. Anways, nice build 👌🔥💯 those sub and box looks and sounda fire🔥

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I appreciate you taking the time to point out those nuances! 👌🏽🔥

The box that has the reverse mounted sub should be smaller to compensate for the interior space gained.

Inverting your subs. Increases the air space in the box. Which decreases port area and raises tuning. Don't invert your subs unless the box was designed for it.
@marcushelweg892910 күн бұрын
Port area does not decrease, however the enclosure volume gets bigger, and in return a lower box tuning, not higher, when you model an enclosure you have to take into account the air volume that it takes up aswell as bracing, Lets say for simplicity that your subwoofer performs best in a closed 26L enclosure, then that means that your woofer needs to have acousticly 26L of air inside the box with the woofer mounted inside.
@SG-Cichlids10 күн бұрын
@marcushelweg8929 i know how it works actually the port area does decrease. Say the box is two cubes net with 16 inches of port area per cube. Tuned to 32 and the port is 34 inches long. Then you invert the sub and now your at 2.5 cubes. The port area is no longer 16 inches per cube and effectively the port length has decreased because the box got larger. Which means higher tuning. Long port lower, short port higher.
@marcushelweg892910 күн бұрын
@@SG-Cichlids The port itself still remain unchanged, but you have changed the tuning frequency, wich you describe. what you mention is enclosure tuning, and if you want to keep the same enclosure tuning when going to 2.5 cubes, you would have to make the port longer yes. the port RELATIVLY to the enclosure has become smaller, if this is what you mean.
@SG-Cichlids10 күн бұрын
@marcushelweg8929 exactly. The port has remained the same. As box volume goes up port area has to go up. If at 2 cubes your at 16 inches of port area. Then you you invert now at 2.5 port area has decreased to say 15.25 inches per cube. Because the lxhxw of the port remained the same you now have a smaller port that is tuned higher. In your first comment you said it got lower. Which is incorrect.
@marcushelweg892910 күн бұрын
@@SG-Cichlids alright, go into any simulation software, vituixcad or winisd, import a woofer in the enclosure tool, make a br box and specify the volume of the enclosure aswell as the port, lock the port so it doesnt change, and then change the enclosure volume to be a bit bigger, what happens? the fb (box tuning) lowers, still with the same exact port.
@monsterrun6 күн бұрын
Technically if ypu reverse mount your sub you also need to reverse polarity.
@kevinreid16974 күн бұрын
Nope, myth... only if sharing a box area with a non inverted sub. Is a polarity change required.
