problem finally resolved: The O-ring goes in the groove just under the cap's top. When screwed on, the ring should stay in the groove and GO INSIDE of the filter housing. If the ring rides up out of the groove, it will become squashed between the face of the cap and the top surface of the housing. Invariably, it will leak. The instructional videos should detail that critical point. On my car, the OEM cap did not have a groove in it for the O-ring for some reason, and the ring would just rise up to the top instead of going in the housing. I got a new cap, it has a groove, and problem solved.

Help! None of these videos address a common problem with this filter where the oil leaks around the gasket that's around the cover. I've tried everything, different makes of filters with different O-rings (red and black, the black seems a bit thinner), hand tightening, using the wrench for a tiny bit more tightening, yet the O-ring still gets a leak. Hand tighten doesn't seem to be enough. Wrench, and I mean just a bit of a turn, causes the ring to bulge out in may 1 spot where it leaks. Yet these videos refuse to suggest an answer. Everything else is simple and obvious. The leak issue is the thing people are seeking answers to. Suggestions, please! And please no speculation - answer only if there is a known cause and solution. If need be, I will try getting a new cap.

You probably had a bad o ring on the filter cap

Or didn't seat it because there is a lot of resistance once the o-ring bumps against the top of the fill hole. POS design to be sure! Too much trouble to get in there to get it on and off.
