My favorite is Google Books. For one of my ancestors i found seven or eight copies of the same book and assumed that they were all the same. Boy was i wrong. I only gleened information from one. A few months later I went back to the same person and chose to review all eight versions. So glad I did. One of the versions not only mentioned him, but also had a picture which others did not. In my research I learned to investigate more clues in Google Books before moving on.

Wow, that's a fantastic find! Good for you for going back to those other versions. It's a good reminder for me to do so as well.

I am struggling to find any information on my husband's mother. No birth certificate or record of her birth. We found that she was buried in NY, but the person at cemetery said there is no record of her there. It's like she disappeared. Thank you for your free sites, I will be cking out worldcat & Google books. Thank you for dedication & sharing!!! Sandy

if someone pops up in a tree. how do I find out the connection to me. it stops with that person. thanks
@LisaLissonAYMC5 ай бұрын
That can be tough. First reach out to the person whose tree you find that name and work together. Often, they have info that can help. Otherwise, you need to research that person out to see how the might possibly fit in your family tree.

I have made several requests for inter-library loans related to family histories, and other very local information. Almost 100% of the time these requests are denied because the repositories won't loan them out.
@LisaLissonAYMC Жыл бұрын
I've had that happen, but have been able to get many. If more than one library has a copy, you can try requesting from a different one possibly (if that's an option). The other thing you can do is reach out to the library who holds the book and discuss with them options. They may be able to do a search of the book for you or you may need to hire a researcher in the area to check it out for you.

I put in a name and archive grid gave me 20 places where he wasn't. No help
@LisaLissonAYMC2 жыл бұрын
ArchiveGrid is more for finding special collections based on family surnames, locations, topics etc. Unless an ancestor was famous or well known, searching on an individual's name doesn't yield good results. Here's a step by step post on using ArchiveGrid for genealogy research: lisalisson.com/archivegrid-genealogy-research/
