I hurt my knee and ankle on my left foot doing exactly that. I hurt like hell. Thank god I had proper boots. Well said.

Ah man, sorry to hear that, Eric. It's an easy mistake to make, especially when fatigued at the end of a ride.

Thank you for this! I am curious, what if the rear wheel washes out during the turn, how does that affect your foot being elevated out on the inside? Example, I had two or three falls (wet leaves like you show!) yesterday. My feet were on the pegs and I safely landed. If it was raised, would there be a danger of having the leg be a pogo stick and more chances of injury? I honestly don't know the answer, appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks for your question! So are you referring to sticking a leg out (forward), and then the rear wheel washes out and causes your leg to drop down to the ground and potentially get caught on something? Just trying to understand the specific situation :)

@@MotocrossHideout Yes. Say you are turning a sharp/slippery wet leave right turn around a tree. You put your leg out front, then the rear tire washes left and you fall .. is it possible your right leg as it falls may catch on some unforeseen obstacle and cause injury, versus on the pegs? I hope that makes sense. I will certainly try your technique ..

@@KNKLHEAD My first thought is that it depends on your natural instinct. If you naturally put your leg down to catch yourself, it might not matter whether your foot is out front or on the peg while turning. I generally find it easier to balance and get more traction with the foot out front, and then practice/use smooth throttle control to prevent the rear from sliding out. A common mistake is "snapping" the throttle when accelerating to try and go faster or because it sounds cool, but this breaks the rear loose much easier than "rolling on" the throttle. Does that make sense?

I see these motocross racers sliding around corners with thier foot down. I was told keep my feet up and on the pegs until i had a 400lb bike land on my leg and give me a nasty hematoma.

Sorry to hear that, Jim! Putting your foot DOWN is not a good idea unless you're flat track racing on a smooth surface with a steel toe. That's why I recommend putting it out front and UP to avoid getting caught. Not sure how you fell, but there's not a lot you can do other than jump away from the bike to avoid getting crushed.
