I completely agree with this video. You even have a lot of hair influencers saying only shampoo your scalp and not your hair. Now you apply more products to your actual hair than your roots. You need to shampoo both.

Yes, I agree I shampoo my TBL hair twice a week. It goes against what a lot of people say, especially for type 4 hair, but it's what works for my hair.
@yvonnehoward7825 Жыл бұрын
@1GoldenBreeze it’s good to hear that! What type of shampoo do you use? And do you workout a lot?
@1GoldenBreeze Жыл бұрын
@@yvonnehoward7825 I have a clarifying shampoo, an all-purpose shampoo, and a moisturizing shampoo. Once a week I'll lather with the all-purpose shampoo first and follow with the moisturizing shampoo. For my second weekly shampoo, I lather twice with the moisturizing shampoo. When my products seem like they are not working the way they usually do, which happens around six to eight weeks, then I use the clarifying shampoo for the first lather and the moisturizing shampoo for the second. We have hard water where I live so clarifying helps to remove the mineral buildup from my hair. I don't workout a lot just two to three times a week.

I decant all of my shampoos into applicator bottles so that I can apply the shampoo directly to my roots. Then I use handheld scalp massager to distribute the shampoo throughout the surface of my scalp and also to manually break up the dirt/sebum/dead skin cells buildup. I do this twice and take the lather all the way down to my ends both times. I've found shampooing my hair this way has helped me to thoroughly cleanse my scalp & hair no matter what kind of shampoo (clarifying, moisturizing, etc) I use. Lovely video! ❤

@@AbbieCurls You should! They feel so good on the scalp and don't add any extra tangles to my hair and I have similar hair texture and length to yours. You have a little bit more density than I do though, so I think you might actually also benefit in using applicator bottles with applicator nozzles for your shampoo application to ensure you don't miss shampooing any areas of your scalp. I didn't realize how clutch applicator nozzles on shampoo bottles were until I used the Melanin haircare shampoo which already comes with one.

Hi there. My hair is high porosity fine strands and medium density, my scalp is normal(no dandruff, dry scalp etc). I have been natural since 2011. Co washes absolutely works wonders for my hair so I use it most of the time. Sometimes i just wash my hair with water only. Trust me my scalp does not smell. Using shampoos constantly on my hair drys it out and breaks it off. I am saying this to say that we have different hair types and scalps so what is working beautifully for you is horrible for someone else. But I appreciate the education. Our young ones need guidance.

This is so true. I have never listen the hair natural girlies. I always wash my hair once a week or once every two weeks. I also wash my hair when having a protective hair style. For my type 4 hair with eczema, I saturate my hair with water and apply a gentle conditioner (low cost) to detangle my hair. Then gently separate my hair in 4 sections and double shampoo my hair. My hair is healthy 😊

I found your channel after a year of co washing and spending so much money and wondering why my hair didn’t have as much definition as when I wasn’t even using good products. I shaved my entire hair off in December as I was just over it, wanting to start from scratch, I thought I’ll start growing it out immediately but I’ve been enjoying not having to do anything that I think I’ll have short hair for the rest of the year. I’m actually washing my hair every single day as it’s mainly scalp and that’s my focus this period, and only using curl creams and my curls are defined and soft:)

People are scared of shampoo because it's "drying" but that's when your conditionner comes in 😅... As straight hair indications is oil my cue is dryness. When hair is dry, wash it, that's when it's saturated with water, that's when you do great things like deep conditionning.

Question: In my routine - I co-wash and then shampoo. I do this every wash day because co-washing helps me detangle my hair. Otherwise, I would have to double cleanse - deep condition - and then try to detangle with my deep conditioner in ( I use a really thick one) but it didn't always help in my detangling. What do you recommend?
@elaniskelley6264 Жыл бұрын
You could use the African Pride pre shampoo to detangle instead of a co-wash.
@curlgirl7512 Жыл бұрын
Technically your cowash is a prepoo, you just use it as a means to prep your hair to avoid tangles when you shampoo
@AbbieCurls Жыл бұрын
I mean, if your current routine is working for you and you don't have any hair concerns I would stick with what you are doing! ... If you did want to try something else then maybe a try a detangling pre-poo before shampooing. Or find a shampoo with slip so that you can start the detangling process whilst shampooing and then do more of a thorough detangle when you have your conditioner on. I only detangle after shampooing when my hair is covered in conditioner, no matter how tangled it was before getting in the shower. I just find detangling before shampooing an extra long step. But I understand different hair types have different needs.

@AbbieCurls Жыл бұрын
Personally I think it is better to use shampoo than co-wash. Co-wash is good for a midweek refresh (I still don't even do that) but co-wash is not good for cleaning your hair... Whether you use a cleansing or moisturising shampoo is down to personal preference. I tend to alternate between the two

Even after I shampoo my hair, I still end up with buildup once I’m out and ready to style. I use a scalp massage brush on the scalp. What could I be doing wrong or what could I do differently?
@bbappzz98 Жыл бұрын
Maybe you need a stronger shampoo? I use a clarifying shampoo then a moisturising shampoo every week but that’s because of my scalp. If you live in a hard water area, you’ll need a chelating shampoo to remove hard water deposits.
@AbbieCurls Жыл бұрын
I'd recommend double shampooing. Apply some shampoo, ru it through your hair and scalp, rinse it out and then do it again. Also try clarifying shampoos rather than moisturising shampoos as they are a stronger clean and remove everything.

Question @AbbieCurls how often would you say you should wash your hair if it's type 4 and in protective styles? Because I never do wash and goes I only wash and condition my hair then style it. My hair doesn't spend time out and I NEVER use gel (don't like it). Ps. I LOVE ur content😊❤️
@AbbieCurls Жыл бұрын
hey! Oooo, this is actually hard for me to advise on because I'm not much of a protective style/long term style girl. Even if I do get something like braids I only ever leave them in for around 3 weeks. However, I know girls who always keep their hair tucked away in long term styles and only wash their hair once ever few months and their hair is thriving! If your hair still feels okay when you take dow your styles, then I would say to continue doing what you're doing. x
@melisajbeauty Жыл бұрын
When I’m in braids, I wash my scalp at least every 2 to 3 weeks, I leave my braids for up to eight weeks. I notice a big difference in growth when I wash my scalp while is in braids, then just leaving it alone for the extended period of time. There are plenty of videos on KZbin on how to wash your hair while in braids with minimal frizz
