When singing raaagas still I can sing high in b or in some cases c too. But practicing alankars it's difficult to go that high. And my guruji always suggest to sing in C ..

The facts that you explained so clearly,they are,in fact,ignored,misinterpreted and wrongly explained by others.Actually they just dismiss the fact that everyone has his/her own scale.I am comfortable in B scale,and my Guru jee always encourages us to sing in our own scale.But I am forced to push myself further by other musicians,always.I sound strained sometimes.They think I am not singing higher because I Don't Want to!

In order to find your scale if I have understood you correctly you should find the mid place on both of which sides you can go equal number of notes. This is true regardless of thaat

tam nas ...correct you should be able to sing at least 3 notes correctly on both side....lower or higher ...in hindi...i would say...you should be able to sing comfortably till "Ma" of both taar saptak( higher notes ) or mandra saptak ( lower note
