The reason why it’s difficult to get into 5th gear is because you are not shifting properly. The transmission is a 10 speed and you are supposed to use the splitter to go between direct and overdrive. So you start in 1st gear low, then 1st gear high, then 2nd low, then 2nd high all the way until 5th high. You might want to bind a button for the splitter on controller when driving trucks.

U can do 2 4 then 6 then split after that if not loaded and if u are loaded u can start in 2 then 4 then split after that 1 is only a crawler gear only used setting off on a hill

Without load 3-5-6-7-8low-8high With load 2-4-5-6-7low-7high-8low-8high With heavy load on a hill 1high-2-3-4-5low-5high etc.. 1 low with load will push trough everything as long as you have contact to the road.

A super 10 is like that an Eaton Fuller 10 speed has a range, not a splitter 5 on the low side and 5 on the top and I always start in 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10

The truck doesn't have much drive over uneven ground, because it only has drive to the two axles with dual tires on. They are in the middle(ish), so when you go through a depression, they lose pressure on the ground, and therefore traction.

Everything is very fragile on BeamNG, even 5 MPH bump can cause a vehicle to lose steering. BeamNG can be unrealistic at time, and yet people still claim that BeamNG is 100% realistic.

Well now Alex learns why Truck drivers have to go to school and work a year with a senior driver before being allowed on the roads by themselves. That and knowing the physics of carrying loads as well as the laws and safety practices. knowing actual travel times, how much time waiting on loads to be loaded/unloaded. Waiting on dispatch for paying loads,hours of operation. when and where to fuel up. best truck stops. And where you can park safely to sleep. Not so simple a job. Then there is maintenance and paperwork. There is a reasin before open bordres that truck driving paid so well. It is a lot of skills and specialized knowledge needed. And that doesn't include participating in demo derbys.

That's a really cool feature, the brakes locking up when the vehicle loses too much pressure. Used to drive a school bus, and that was one of the prime safety features. Lovely bit of realistic game design. Kudos to BeamNG team.

A note about air tanks... on these semis they are often placed beneath the batteries. Note the black box all the way at the back of the truck, between the chassis members. It's a fairly exposed place when cars are trying to ram you from behind and you have no trailer...

The way that the air brakes work is a compressor supplies air to the tank, and the tank acts as a reservoir that supplies air to the brake system. If the tank starts leaking, it's not _too_ big of an issue in BeamNG, as the compressor keeps supplying air(it's just that now it's _constantly_ having to supply air). The problem is when the tank gets ruptured. At that point, it can't keep _any_ air whatsoever, all the air rushes out of the system, and the sudden loss of pressure automatically slams on the emergency brakes(yes, it works very much like the railroad air brake).

Alex, Trucks have an "un-syncronized manual gearbox" meaning you have to come off the throttle and "float" to the next gear for clutchless shifts, or use a double-clutching technique (assuming the game simulates this at all.) Also, air brakes only release with air in the system, so when it leaks out, there is no pressure to keep the shoes from engaging the drums. That is the weakness of the Segra, it has the pressure tanks on the rear frame rail, so they just torpedo it and you're done. Great video mate, keep up the good work. :)

I think the pressure tank is in the back, and when someone hits the back it starts leaking. Also, that many wheels are needed when hauling oversized cargo. Then sometimes even trailer wheels are steered.

Idk know about EU trucks, but the cabin suspension over here can look pretty ridiculous when veiwed from behind, especially when pulling heavy loads. I remember getting a call from my mom asking if the truck was alright when I left home with 40,000lbs of pallets, because the truck "looked sideways" 😂😂😅

I recently learned that European trucks have 4-point suspension, whereas in the US the cabs are mostly just on two cushions (for some reason). So the wobble might be even more pronounced on european rigs.

Your typical truck gearbox (EU) is no different than a manual box. It does have a clutch plate etc. However when you select D the onbord computer will select a gear oftern 2nd. And will change up depending on how fast the truck is going. So on a flat normal road it may go 2nd, 4th, 6th. There is a "manual" setting which is normally on a stalk which you can select the gears. Also the air tank is you life line as the air not only does your brakes but also gears and the cab suspension. (If that option was selected). Hope this helps.

So truck brakes build air pressure to Release the brakes. so they are likely breaking a air line at the back and as the pressure bleeds off the spings that hold the brakes on overcome the air pressure trying to hold them off. Locking your wheels. Safety mechanism so the truck will stop in the event of failure. Not sure why the 10 wheeler blew a line so fast. Was interesting to see how a runaway semi can push through and ultimitely fail.
