Hey John PLEASE talk to your players and set season goals. PLEASE make Michkovs goal for Calder as it can give him a potential boost! Also it will prompt you to talk to your coach make sure to check that out you can actually get preseason upgrades. Also the off season you can actually do training on players. Highly recommend checking it out after year 1 as you can actually change players shoot pass bias

You can ask your players to waive their clauses and you can also ask them to change position or player type (also new feature)

Michkov really isnt a sniper. He's more of a playmaking goalscorer. He'll score a lot of goals but more so because he goes to dirty areas around the net and is a master of finding weak spots. He can also just find guys like he has eyes all around his head.

Note for Johnny - DO NOT USE SEASON GOAL with coaches It will completely screw with coaching style and line combinations. (Usually does not happen for first year, maybe second, but after that is happens almost every time). You can force coach to change their style, but can only do it once. So it is best to only use season focus or just leave coach to their own devices

Thank you for finally fixing the Flyers! There's a ton of things this team needs to help Michkov win: 1. They need at least 1 or 2 top centers, the depth is non existent 2. You need another top defenseman to pair with either York or Drysdale (I would choose between one of the two), then also try to grow Emil Andre 3. Their top goalie prospect from Russia is not in the game so you'll need to find that guy It'll be hard to straight up rebuild this team so you'll have to be aggressive with trades and finding young high potential players that don't fit on their current rosters. Also Matvei Michkov needs to be changed to a sniper not a playmaker but it's not the end of the world for that

They do have an elite goalie prospect! Yegor Zavragin in the KHL has been otherworldly for a teenager. Ppl over there say he's on that Sheshterkin/Sorokin level at the same age

Johnny in this new franchise mode they made it way easier to grow your young players and keep your older players a higher ovr. It takes a long time but you should have a conversation with all of your players at the start of the season for their “season goals” and in the offseason and challenge them depending on which stat you want to grow for that player. Also EA changed how they do player ratings so awareness stats are not the only ones that matter anymore every different player type has different stats that contribute more to their ovr. The highest value for each player type is: Playmaker:Passing, Sniper:Wrist shot Acc, Enf/Grn/Pwf: Strength, Ofd: Off Awr, Twf+ every other defender: Def Awr. Idk if u know yet but if you use the off-season focus, pre season focus for the coach (have torts focus on 5v5 every year it’s so overpowered) and the season goals you can grow your players by insane amounts by telling them to focus on offensive and defensive awareness. Also by using the contract negotiation feature u can get players locked up to some pretty insane deals so don’t look past that.

Another rule I would consider with this series from least series is not doubling up on powerplay lines. How all the best players last series were on both powerplay lines to inflate their point totals and therefore inflate their overalls

Johnny, I highly recommend you to use those custom rosters. The shot frequency isn’t like the past games. Those have been edited by all With the bias metric for pass/shoot! They include many prospects that are not in the OHL or the European leagues and it will really help your immersion for a simulation over the course of this franchise. Please reconsider as the EA rosters are absolutely awful. There is another creator called true Sim from operation sports Who also has rosters out. He doesn’t have the creative players. I don’t believe but he has edited the NHL rosters heavily.

when doing the offseason training and season goals, try to put an emphasis on the med top 9s+med top 6 dmen once they get to mid-high 70s. Ive gotten A LOT of them to become studs (like high 80s low 90s) for me by using these goals and when they hit them in the ahl, i call them up to the nhl and they will typically get an overall boost due to reaching those goals. also when doing your preseason focus hit 5v5 or goalie focused as they will be best for player development and reg season results

One suggestion for this series. Put a blank filler at the end of every playoff episode to make each edited episode around 2 hours long. That way the video isn't spolied by knowing when it will end. I always hate that I can tell when the team gets eliminated because the video ends at a time that doesn't allow for another series.

1. Play everyone until the deadline, figure what you have and who cannot stay because they don't fit the system 2. Heavily scout AHL for trades next year at the draft prior to year 2, these are the players you are going to want to target in trades to pair up with the young guns you have decided to keep. The top NHL guys will be too expensive until you shed cap, so focusing on U23 players on top teams will allow you to build a narrative in your world where it will make sense to acquire them in a trade

Trade the older vets (Laughton, Hathaway, Johnson plus anyone w/o a NMC that isn't a longterm fit) and play all the young + mid 20's guys top 6 minutes (Michkov, Frost, Foerster, Farabee, Tippett, Konecny). First line needs to be Michkov, Frost, Konecny and a second line of Farabee, Foerster, Tippett. Couturier centers the third line with Laughton and Cates as the shutdown line + PKers. Deslauriers, Poehling and Hathway your fourth line energy guys. York mans PP1 and Drysdale mans PP2. Year one needs to be development oriented and trimming the fat

EA should absolutely add a "Generational" tier above Franchise. They should be able to code it so there can only be 1-3 of those active in the league at a time. When McDavid is nearing the end of his career or retired, one can be added into the draft.

Johnny for your main players or players you want to grow in different aspects like, shooting, passing, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, face offs, during the preseason or offseason, and ask the coach what preseason training you would like to focus on, either increasing, Offensive stats ( awareness, shooting, passing and puck skills) and defensive stats (awareness, shot blocking, stick checking) as well as face offs and physical attributes, honestly. Jamie Drysdale is not an elite talent anymore or he hasn’t played like it. Maybe lower his potential to a high top 4 or a low elite, or medium top 4, with a medium elite he is 9 times out of 10 going to be a top offensive d man in the nhl, or if you want to keep his medium elite, just lower his physical stats and defensive stats, and i think mithkovs shot frequency is quite up there, you can ask the coach ( torts) if Mithkov would be willing to change his player type to a sniper.

my advice for the scouting is to only view their positions and not potentials. it just isnt fair that you always know exactly what every prospects potential will be. thats not realistic and like ive said in the comments for like 10 years now, winning realistically is the only thing that matters. anyone can fleece the team with the #1 overall pick and get a franchise player and build a winner. you dont need to do that and we dont need to see 5 cups in 7 years or whatever to enjoy the series. and the thing is, you are so good at this that youll eventually likely build that dynasty anyway without cheesing the game.

Gradually clear house over the first couple seasons. Buyout couturier, Flip 90% of the team for picks and better potential players so the only remaining flyers are konecney, mitchkov, tippett, farabee, sandheim, york and ersson.

You mention how in the latter years of the Gm mode the defenseman get really bad, changing the generated prospect quality unfortunately doesn't fix that. The issue isn't that there aren't defenseman with good potential, it's that they simply don't develop. Most med or high top 4 potential defenseman top out at 80, and most med elite defenseman cap out at 85.
