It all starts with a willingness and desire to want to let go, this plants the seeds for better days ahead. If the desire wants to let go but the willingness says "not ready" then it won't happen and be ready for life to continue to give us more lessons until we had enough. Once we had enough, we will then be ready to let go. This is only my opinion from experience.

You're right, it's so easy because after 53 years of not marrying somebody and not settling, the person finally comes along.
