Every now and again, I'm mistaken for a local when I travel - always extremely flattering.

I am always suspicious when someone says that he or she is a traveler rather than a tourist. It takes effort, time and a very open mind to really dig into another culture, notice their peculiarities and understand why they are/do things like this. So, is it actually possible to be a traveler spending a couple of weeks at some place? Finding a beach, a restaurant or an old hidden castle that no one knows about is enough? Running from common place sightseeing makes people superior than others? Why do we have to bother so much with how people enjoy their trips??? Nice video, Seth.

Thank you Daniela. Very good points -- I just don't think there's a point of showing off what great "travelers" we are. Instead, we should just listen to everyone's stories and encourage everyone to travel the way they want to.

For me, depends on what kind of travel I am in. Sometimes you have a short time to travel, so it's better to see things you're probably gonna like and try to do something different from the pattern. When you have more time, it's easier to discover the place you're traveling to. It also depends on how you behave, if you respect the traditions or if you think people don't know you nor gonna see you again.

I think I'm kind of Both of then, but according to some of your videos I'm a traveler, cause I never make too much plans and I'm always ready to change plans and find new stuff
@globallycurious91516 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I think that when I recommend not making too many plans it's actually because I'm too lazy to make plans. But then it works out great. Thanks for the comment.

That's great content, Seth! I'm pretty sure I would be fitted in the "tourists" group, right from the start. hahaha I don't have much experience in traveling and I'm super scared something might go wrong, so I guess I would choose safety rather than adventure.
@globallycurious91516 жыл бұрын
Sarah, there's really no "tourist" group -- you can do tourist things 23 hours a day and then take a walk for an hour and find something interesting and that is traveling to me.
@sarahjosua6 жыл бұрын
oh! got it. so I guess I'm more of a "safety first" traveler then!

I was in Mexico City with that Aussie friend of mine, and we were calling all the tourists out (only for our selves though hehe) but turns out we were visiting the same touristic atractions as they were, the only difference was that we were taking the public bus and eating our tacos in random places, I'm not an actual traveler hue hue (we spend the rest of the month in Veracruz, without anyone else to speak English with though, I had to adapt my Portunhol into Portuñol in order to communicate 👌).
@globallycurious91516 жыл бұрын
That's a good and common story. It's important not to judge other travelers (at least until you talk to them). Someone on their first trip is never going to be as adventurous as an experienced traveler - and you also cannot know what their motives are for traveling. (Of course once you meet them and they tell you their story you can decide what you think, and maybe invite them to come with you for a taco!)

I guess the best part of the video was when you state that travelers usually compare the modus operandi in other cultures with their own cultures. It is for sure one of the best things of exploring the world. See ya Amigo Gringo!

Seth, I wish we had a better system if vacation days here in the States - HA! With the amount of vacation that I have I can only be a tourist ....hehehehe. Jokes aside I don’t care what people label themselves as long as they keep traveling, exploring, experiencing new things ....all good for me :)
