In April after about a month of fear based COVID evening drinking I decided to go on a 35 day challenge: no booze, keto and do a chloe ting work out program. Two days into my challenge I''m on a friday afternoon zoom happy hour. Everyone is drinking and I feel like garbage, even after the call I am ITCHING for my Friday night beer and wine, my anxiety is out of control. I ended up reading This Naked Mind instead. I remember ROLLING MY EYES when Annie writes 'you'll go from never getting to drink again to never having to drink again'....three days later something clicked and I was like "I never have t drink again!!!" LOL. Thank you Annie!

@@ThisNakedMind A quote from AA/NA "We had to have something different and we thought we had found it in drugs." Really hit it on the head when you said the thing you thought was helping you do everything, was really destroying everything. I just found your channel, great stuff. I hope you are well. Congratulations.

It’s so true. When you feel like you’re giving up something beneficial, in any way, it’s really hard! Giving up a poison is actually easy, but only when you stop seeing any benefit, and that takes a lot or reading and introspection. While I’m sure you get some push back on this, you’re also giving a lot a people a different way of approaching the issue of alcohol.
@ThisNakedMind2 жыл бұрын
So glad you can see the value in that. The push back isn't an issue as long as we are helping people!

When I got sober about 5 years ago it was because I had a similar shift in perspective. I realized that I could be a strong, proud, sober person and the desire for that strength and peace was a much stronger desire than my desire to drink. I felt like I was gaining more than what I was giving up. It wasn't just about trying to stop drinking. It became all about what I was gaining and the idea in my mind of the person I could become. That's what made it so much easier for me to "stop drinking".
@ThisNakedMind4 жыл бұрын
Yes - that shift is monumental!!
@neutrallyamused3 жыл бұрын
@Komorebi🕊 I smell projection. Seems to have worked pretty well for me for over six and a half years now, I’d call that sustainable. Much more sustainable than drinking ever was. And staying sober has taken a hell of a lot more work than just a shift in perspective. Not still drinking. Sorry about your issues, bro. Hope you figure it out and stop leaving shitty comments to random people on the internet✌🏻

Annie, your book changed my life! I had tried SO many times to stop drinking by using will power. Of course that didn’t work, I really thought I was seriously broken or I was an alcoholic. I found you through Sober Sis and I’m so glad I did, I have been AF since May 30th, and it really hasn’t been that hard. Thank you for revolutionizing how we can stop drinking. I appreciate you so much!

It's totally what changed for me. I struggled for a long time. Then I switched my mindset of "its poison" (because it truly is), and then I never had a craving, desire, or ANY struggle to ever want alcohol again. Now I feel sorry for people drinking because they have no clue how much they are damaging themselves. Gamechanger.

This post is 2 weeks ahead of me but I am also on day 2 sobriety. It’s scary because alcohol has gradually dug itself into me. I can’t tell you when it officially took hold over me. When I look at photos just 4 years ago as a successful personal trainer, RN and Air Force service-member, I wonder when and how I lost myself. Incredible how this drug can completely transform you in the worst and most sneaky way. Good luck on your journey.

I found studying how the GABA and Dopamine from alcohol actually effect your brain was the only thing that helped me, understanding how I can drink 30standards and still be anxious or not having a memory of an alcohol 'high' since partying in year 12

I am 23 and my dad recommended me to you. I never believed in the AA program, for myself. I understand it works for some people, I get that. But I don’t believe in calling myself an alcoholic, to me it is more like a choice I make I can choose to quit or cut back. I just don’t want to drink vodka every single night to mask my social anxiety. I love this. I will be more compassionate and help myself. I will go to your site right now at 1 in the morning. Thank you so much Annie.
