I’ve been sewing a long time too but that way of doing the hem vent is new to me! So easy!
@daphnecorcoranАй бұрын
make sure you take care of the raw edge of the fabric before making the vent. Overlock, zig zag or fold under.

I have been sewing for 50 years and I could spot a thing or two that work with the fabric you're using but certainly not with thicker and /or fraying materials. I aplaude the use of the iron. It gets forgotten a lot of the time. Tip: make sure you thread the thread through the hook just above the needle. It makes sure that your thread is being fed to your needle in a straight line. It is there for a reason.

That hem vent is interesting, but instead of a little cut at the hem's fold, I would trim the seam allowance diagonally at the fold just before turning.

Beginning sewists - Do NOT sew over pins.
@violetvotes20244 ай бұрын
Why?
@alisoneichler42574 ай бұрын
@@violetvotes2024 couple of reasons … can damage your machine (old mechanical machines are OK but newer electronic machines can go haywire!). Also, the chances of breaking a pin or the needle are pretty high. Half the needle may go down into the machine - causing damage to the bobbin assembly. Or, worst case, the broken needle/pin may fly up into your face or eye. Carefully remove the pin before sewing over it - without tugging /distorting the fabric. Takes some practice but it will become second nature.
@uvunitos714 ай бұрын
Exactly! Whenever I see someone do it I personally cringe
@incanada833 ай бұрын
@@alisoneichler4257 Good advice. My machine sews over the pins (it's electronic) but I use eye protection for the reasons you mentioned. Some fabrics are hard to sew without slipping from under the sewing foot and it's easier/quicker with pins.
