To me, this is exactly what Thumos is about. Living relentlessly, unflinching, honouring ones nature. I struggled a lot with this when I was younger. I was a very spirited, energetic kid, and my dad always struggled with that I think. The lesson he taught me was: You are too present. You ask too much. You do too much. That lesson became engrained in me as I grew up. I started walking on eggshells. In the last few years, I've started to understand that he kept teaching me this lesson because of the discomfort he had with himself. My dad didn't know any better than to always try and be liked by everyone. Luckily, as I became more separate from him, I grew to learn that imposing my will on the world was not harmful, in fact I could make a positive change that way - even if I had to make others uncomfortable in the process. I still struggle with it nowadays, but I try to keep teaching myself this different lesson.

You dont know that, a father has a responsibility to socialize their kid, it sounds like you might were a bit unhinged or your father thought you were going that way. Who knows where you would have ended up, ive seen this around me allot, and it usually doesnt end well. Your father probably had your best interest at heart…

I grew up in the same house as my grandfather. He was my 'daddy' growing up. He really decimated my confidence. we would be in company. Id start to speak and he would start tutting and shaking his head. He died when i was 30 and as soon as they took him away, i cracked open a can of beer and thought thank fuck,, some peace now. Elisha's dad sounds a great man going around the strorage units, the homeless guys. you learn so much from that kind of life.

Elisha, your story about your father is almost verbatim what happened with my father. My father passed away 2 years ago. He was a boxing coach and a father of 3. Owned his own gym in PA for years. When we moved he left his lifelong friends, lost his gym, and lived to work a soul sucking job and provide for his family. Had no fellowship and it broke him. He really was a good man before all this, but he became angry. Men need each other. Shooting the shit is a lost art. Another great video Elisha. High thumos

Man after 3 months of therapy I ended up with the exact same realisations. Being overtly nice was coming from a place of deceit. The feeling of shame perpetuating everything. It's a consequence of misinformed parenting and being conditioned by the media for the purpose of profit. But at a certain level of age and experience you have to say no. Enough.

The be there for ur Dad sentiment really resonates Eli. I recently moved back in with my parents and I’ve been trying to do this. And I think it’s been really good for me and my Dad. Our relationship had become tenuous before I moved out but I think we’ve both come to appreciate each other and our differences through our time spent apart. Yesterday on my birthday he took the day off work and we just spent the whole day hanging out together. It was nice. We were just sitting by a lake for a while and just talked, I mostly just listened. I felt that he got some things off his chest that he had no one else to verbalize to. Someone like my Mom wouldn’t resonate with only another guy would really understand. Thanks Eli for helping me improve my relationship with my Dad. It’s nice to be there for him it makes me feel good.

Hey man thanks a lot for this video. I’m 21 and sometimes it feels like ive been walking on eggshells my whole life. I gotta break those chains and start to live again, nothing else is more important.

Elisha, I’ve moved out of my parents house 3 months ago and broke up with my girlfriend, which was a 3 year long relationship. My parents and also her were keeping me inside that rat cage and I finally woke up and stood up to my life flashing before me. Everything was so planned out, it seemed like I knew my path until the end of my life. That made me so depressed. I started cooking, smoking a cigar every once in a while when watching your videos, implementing routines to give myself some structure. I feel like I’m on the hero’s journey and I’m growing so much every single day. But one problem I sometimes face is boredom and emptiness, I struggle to find ways of going out there, meeting new people and building a tribe of my own. I lost almost all my friends, cut ties with people that weren’t good for me. Sometimes I just indulge in this feeling of boredom, not knowing what to do for the rest of a day. You inspire me to do lots of things, I will challenge myself this month to go outside for the entire day and not coming home until the evening.. Still I feel like there is so much more to explore, but I don’t know where to start. I would be grateful if you or members of this channel could help me out with this, if it’s relatable. Keep the thumos high guys.

This one hit home man. I moved about a year and a half ago away from my hometown and got a good job and living with my now fiancé. Life is good for the most part, but I still haven’t really made any new friends here besides my coworkers (not the same) and don’t really know how to get out there and make connections like I used to do in college. I had a ton of good friends before I moved and they all started to fade away after college as we went out separate ways. Miss shooting the shit with the boys, but I lost my tribe. Not sure where to go from here

Everything you said about your father is parallel to me; and unfortunately sucks we didn’t realize these things about our fathers until after their passing and until we got older. With that in mind, I choose to live my life with him in mind. Bring our friends together, share laughs, have a great loving relationship, etc.

Your Dad sounds like my Dad minus the storage units. He once hired a guy from Mexico to help build chicken coops for us, house paint and clear a fence line of bushes & trees. For a week he let the guy sleep in our garage. He got a pillow, blanket and 3 meals a day. 5 kids though. And he didn't have a store but he was always flipping stuff so visiting San Antonio flea markets was his thing.

Elisha, I'm a 23 years old Swede and I'm thinking about dropping out of film college after 1,5 months. For the second time. I've got some friends here. If I didn't I'd drop out already. I've loved film for 8-9 years. But I don't feel that passion here. My main issue is that it feels like I am wasting my time and energy and money here. I don't see how this year being here helps me in any concrete way of achieving my goals. I also do not enjoy the tasks we're given. It's a very feminist school, mostly women here, and I just don't like it. My teacher said that I'm a lonewolf and that I've always been that way. He said that when I told him why I thought about dropping out. My main goal in life is to marry a Catholic traditional woman, have plenty of kids and be able to provide and protect them and to love them. I also want to move out to the countryside, near nature and hunt. I'd prefer to make my own movies as a living, but I don't know how possible that is. If I quit, I'll probably take a blue collar job, a sales job or learn a trade. If I take a job without education, I'll try a sidehustle - probably starting a videography business.... I would love to hear your thoughts, Elisha. I've been watching you since 2018.
