First of all, Brad, you're looking fit man (wishing you continued good health)! Secondly, always appreciate your opinion. I discovered your channel nearly two years ago as I began my learning journey and the way you convey your message that anyone can learn to code as long as they put in the time has been tremendously helpful to me when I reach those low points in the journey. My path may not be as optimal as others (married, two kids, help run a family business), and I may not have found that first job in 3-6 months like so many are promised by the next hot bootcamp, but what I have learned, and part of that is thanks to you, is that it's not about the destination, but the journey and process of getting there. It's in the struggle that the most growth is found. I was once scared of failure, to the point I'd rather not do something, than to try and fail. Coding has broken me out of that box, and now I realize that failure is a learning opportunity that leads to growth. Thanks Brad for your videos and insight. Your perspective is needed, especially in times like these, where people are bombarded with the doom and gloom.

Last year I was a developer conference, where AI was also a recurring topic. The last speaker of the day said: "If our customers can explain to the AI exactly what they want, unambiguously, then yes, we will over time lose our job." And the audience laughed. So we're good. ^^ I have fully embrazed AI (i.e. Copilot) and it makes my work go so much faster. It's not a threat, it's an opportunity! And by the way, I didn't know about your rough past. Hats off for getting out of that and achieving this amazing career! :)

Exactly! Being a developer is more than just copy and pasting code. You have to design it in line with requirements, understand it, test it, debug it and so on. Also, there are so many different parts that have to work together, tons of libraries and tools that are used and intertwined, and there is no way that LLMs can manage all of this. Not for a long time at least. And once it can, not only dev jobs will be in trouble, it will be like 99% of white collar jobs. If you are a dev that is worried that AI will take your job, then the issue is probably you, not AI, and you should consider a new position.

@@user-bq4xc2yy3m What I meant by that is that when AI has come so far it could replace most devs, it is no longer an issue specific to developers but rather a significant portion of all jobs in existence. Hopefully there are policies in place at that point to deal with the issues that we inevitably will encounter when most of the population no longer has to work. But I believe that is quite far in the future.

I saw a tweet recently saying something like "I don't need AI to do my art so that I could do stuff like dishes & chores... I wan't AI to do chores, so that I can do art" and it's spot on. We could/should use AI to do the grunt work, the "boring" stuff, like markup, or converting wireframes & design into HTML, so that we have more time for the "cool", dynamic stuff, data, functionality, etc... Edit: I wrote this comment before getting to the part where you said something similar 😃

Greatly appreciate your comments on this subject. I remember back when I was in college in the early 90s when I studied Graphic Design. Many of my professors were all the old school designers who worked in letra film and prismacolor markers and snubbed their noses at desktop publishing and computer graphics. They quickly became obsolete. I feel AI is the next stage of technology you either embrace or you'll be left behind. I'm an educator who is currently transitioning back into a role in either UX designer or Web Developer and I use AI all the time to help troubleshoot problems or stimulate creativity. Side note, I love you videos and owe a lot of what I've learned to you! I especially like your videos addressing things like impostor syndrome and self-confidence to start a coding job. Keep doing what your doing man! Thank you!

Great video 👍 People who claim they understand AI, knows nothing about it all The biggest reason why I don't like tech influencers (other than the fact that most of them can't actually code properly) is because they constantly overreact to the latest technologies or tech news for clickbait just so they can pump their overpriced courses and affiliate links Even though I studied AI in video games for one of my modules at university, I still have a lot to learn with AGIs and other forms of AI I'm really excited for what future AI has to offer and how we can refine it to help our daily lives

I just do my own thing and yes my channel is not as popular as it once was, but I have no interest in clickbait, overreactions, 30 second reels, etc. That seems to be what is popular these days. I miss the days of thenewboston where long form educational content was king.

Great insights man. It’s a hot topic these days and there are so much to say. But there is one thing for certain; telling “stop learning” to people who have the will to learn is simply ridiculous. And worse, whoever says this brings nothing to the table. We’re already in an era brings too much distraction (social media, AI driven information, streaming services etc.). if you can find the time and will to learn something, just learn it. It doesn’t matter if it’s programming or something else.

Finally some good and down to earth options about this! Good video! Couldn’t agree more. The more I learn to use ai tools, the more I realize they are nothing without someone making decisions about it. It does not do everything for you as some people might think, it only helps you make things faster and avoid some basic googling. Just my experience, I’m a junior dev only, but I was so discouraged about this until I started using it!

One of the big reasons I'm not too worried, is because like you said "tech is always innovating and progressing". When AI gets to the point of developing the new tools and they're good, that's when it should be time to worry. When new tools come out it takes time for developers to get used to them, discover best practices, fix bugs, make new patterns, and often the documentation is not great meaning it'd be a lot harder for the AI to understand how to correctly use them. It also takes time for them to be widely adopted, which would limit the amount of data for the AI to train on. I actually think it's a good thing that low level jobs will likely be replaced (coming from someone who is still looking to enter the field), because who really wants to be doing that work anyways? This may be a hot take, but it's a good filter to a degree. There's nothing wrong with getting into tech to earn money, but to want to get into tech with entry level skills to earn entry level money, and never progress just makes you a gate keeper to a degree ... and we need a lot less of that.

Yes, agreed. I see it in my junior position too, that AI only helps to some extend when it comes to Software Engineering. Secondly, even though AI can do entry level tasks quite effectively, one has to keep in mind that experienced Developers aren't going to live forever; you do have to instruct the next generation to to become experienced devs themselves.
