Also you can put the transfer case n Neutral, In this day and age I think a lot if people wouldn't figure that out Lol

Wedge a cork in to the window latch on the side sliding window, stops people sliding things between the windows to open the latch.

@@ScoutTheDefender sadly security bolts won't stop organised theft anyone can buy a security bit set for drills on Amazon iv got a set i use for work myself .... only good for opportunist theives but their more inclined to smash and grab, i think your ball bearings are smart tho, i wouldn't change those if i were you..

Very good, but I am surprised you didnt mention a really effective one - an alarm vibration monitor that activates the alarm if the vehicle is bumped or something.

I have a Series 2a . With a separate starter switch, choke, and a separate electric fuel pump switch,( all unmarked) I would be surprised if someone could get it started quickly. Add the bouquet of levers sticking out of the floor and the uneducated would walk away. I suppose someone could haul it off on a trailer. A friend in the UK told me the only time he ever bought a new Land Rover ( he’s had many Land Rovers) it was a 2014 Defender. He had it 9 days and someone stole the bonnet and all doors. I read recently that even now, in the UK, a Defender is stolen every day. Here in the US, it’s the older Hondas and Ford F150s.

For a sure way to prevent your vehicle stolen by being driven off, just remove the tires, either one, the two front or back.

Although the hacker community will often claim that security through obscurity is no security at all, I'd argue that when it comes to protection against vehicle theft, obscurity is the best available protection. Of course, fitting high profile and high quality well known security has its own benefits, mainly as a _deterrent_ . Your hope is that a thief who is in the market for a Defender will see the security products fitted to your vehicle and simply decide that there will be an easier steal somewhere else. But through obscurity comes the _real_ protection. Because a competent thief who takes the decision to steal your vehicle will generally do so with full knowledge of all the common high profile security devices. He will know everything about them, including their strengths, weaknesses and the potential exploits. And this is where security through obscurity is a great layer of defense. Because a professional thief has no hope of researching what you did or planning any workarounds. But I think the most dangerous risk in all of this is that your vehicle is stolen by an organised crime gang. And what they will do is arrive with a big truck, haul your Land Rover on to the truck, and drive it away. With the current prices for used Defenders, the involvement of professional organised crime gangs is a very real risk. In this case it doesn't matter what protection you installed on the vehicle because they'll deal with that in their own time at some dodgy workshop somewhere. Here a tracker is the only real defense, although unfortunately there are methods by which they can be defeated, even without locating them. I would have added to your list a decent CCTV system to be installed wherever the Land Rover is most often parked overnight. Of course, the thieving scum will hide their identities during a job so it's generally not much good for that. But if you can get notifications to your phone when motion is detected, then you stand a chance of at least catching the criminals in action, and in that case you can do something to try and stop them finishing the job. My camera does a pretty good job of identifying not just motion itself, but people specifically. One issue you can encounter with relying on phone notifications is that you turn the volume down on your phone at night. To counter this I use a program called Tasker, which is an automation software for Android. And I've set it up to read my notifications and when it sees that a notification came from my GPS tracker or my CCTV system it makes a record of the current notification volume, then turns the notification volume to maximum, repeats the notification at full volume and then turns the volume back down to what it was before. This way if my tracker says my vehicle has left the geofence or my CCTV has detected a person on my drive at night, I will definitely be alerted to it and then I can take the appropriate action.

double nut your hinges for a start ,there is another wire that can be cut turnng off all your security and easy to get too all the thieves will know were it is so get it mooved from underneath to above ,battery backup alarm,i disconnected all my door locks removed all the internal up and down door lock openers inside the car basically you have to smash a window to get in and even if you rip the door cards off your not getting out through the door as there are plates to protect the lock with very sharp edges lol ,and a lot more goodies which i wont mention.

The ball-bearing is a cracking idea! But what size is required?
@ScoutTheDefender2 жыл бұрын
Good isn’t it! Unfortunately I’m not sure what size but looks like mine have been forced into the bolt head - makes it very hard to get them out!
@frank-lr2 жыл бұрын
Try 5mm. And forget about "security" bolts. They're usually just torx pin head for which the bits are available very easily. Or the scumbags just drill them out.

I drive a bashed up rusty looking 300 TDI pick-up with X-lock which locks her in 3rd and a f@#£&Ng massive Disk Lock big yellow metal steering lock which covered the entire steering wheel, so a big visual deterrent. Also about to fit a 50A key switch which will disconnect the battery completely, and am considering fitting a really cheap £14 battery powered alarm under the dash which detects movement, I'll have to let the code by feel, but it will beep when set and be unexpected.
