I hope this video gives you some understanding of the steps involved in teaching a horse to stop. I also hope that you now feel a little more confident on HOW to teach it to your horse. Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for watching.

Duke has a one rein stop, but on the trail if we are on the way home, he sometimes does a few circles before he stops his feet. Your seat stop is impressive!! We are working on that right now. He's smart enough for sure, but he's not always paying attention

I’m sure if mine were going home and it was tea time they would probably do a couple of circles too 😆. I’m sure you will have him sorted with you seat stop soon. Thank you for taking to time to comment I truly appreciate it. 🙂

I wish you were in TX! I’d pay anything to take a lesson from you. You’re a great teacher and I’m absolutely obsessed with all your training videos. My mare is very desensitized to forward aids but get’s WAY too strong and heavy sometimes when we canter and/or pop over fences. I don’t know how to explain that she feels very horizontal. No upward energy whatsoever. Either way, I’ve been binge watching all your training videos and cannot wait to get started on working on some of these exercises once the weather in TX collaborates 🙄 either way, THANK YOU!!!

I need to train the one rein stop. My horse is older, 22, isn't very supple. Can I still teach her the one rein stop?

This is really helpful! I have a new 10yo kaimanawa that has NO BRAKES and a very hard mouth (not taught by me). I try and be soft on the reins in walk which is fine and she will slow but in trot she just gets hot and heavy and is hard to slow and stop. I will try the one rein stop :)

Oh you have a Kaimanawa horse 😍. Just remember you will need to "teach" her the ORS as she may not understand it. Go right back to the beginning and move forward. I promise you that she will learn to stop from soft aids if you take the time to help her. Let me know how you go, I would love to hear.

@@BasicHorseTraining when I first got her she was head rooting at the ground heaps but we’ve stopped that. Just need to soften her mouth. What’s ORS short for??
@BasicHorseTraining4 жыл бұрын
ORS = one rein stop. If you go to the description part of this video you will find a link to a guide that I wrote. It will help you with your training. If you can’t find it let me know and will help you 🙂
