Great episode! Perhaps not inherently powerful/dorky 3D, but there's a TON of random licensed games on GBC that were developed by the same part of natsume that did shadow of the ninja/ninja warriors/the snes power rangers games, including an Action Man title and two power rangers games that are well worth checking out!

Did you know you can play 3D parts of GBA games in the emulator mGBA and render the mode7 effects in an HD internal resolution as opposed to the GBA's natural sub-240p? It'd be cool to see a video on that, these games are actually hiding a lot of hidden detail and they look really weird and interesting when you make their low-res 3D effects suddenly HD, like F-Zero Maximum Velocity with HD visuals. It's a very new feature so I don't blame anybody for having not heard of it. It also works on rotation effects in GBA games, so it can get that Giant Skeleton from Aria of Sorrow looking smoother than he ever has been before

Holy shit though, those sprites from the Spider Man bonus sequences are insanely good. The web looks so dynamic as it comes near the screen and Spider Man animates just so absurdly smoothly. They had to cut down on some of his animation frames for the open world part of the next game which is understandable, but holy shit that bonus stage is insane for the spritework on Spidey.
@Gadget-Walkmen3 жыл бұрын
What "next game" are you refering to? Spiderman 2 gba? There was animation frames that were cut downed? I didn't notice at all but Spiderman 1 gba does seem more smoother than ever.
@Gadget-Walkmen3 жыл бұрын
Oh never mind, the frames in spiderman 2 gba ARE cut down and looks REALLY choppy compared to the first game, never mind, The video showed that and it doesn't look as good as the first game but still kinda decent on it's own overall. Wish the frames were high enough to be completely smooth for spidey swinging AND the environment of the buildings.

Also your approach to bad games just brings a big smile to me, you still find entertainment even in the "bad" stuff and it's so much fun. One GBA 3D game you haven't covered yet is Drome Racers. It's one of the rare cases where I think the handheld downconversion is actually better than the original console version -- the console version is a bland, forgettable kart racer (which I think nobody would have even remembered had it not held the Lego license), but the GBA version goes full-on Virtua Racing esque 3D and it's VERY impressive. Please give it a look when you have a chance!

Plenty of minigames, the story might not be as good as TRON 2.0 but its a neat little thing that allows you to play with the main protagonist of the whole franchise TRON itself, and its a very competent game on top of that, no glitches, no bad controls, its always engaging and has a very cool style that no other game on the GBA has. If you are a TRON fan you own it to yourself to play this game, if you are a Sci Fi/computer geek you also own it to yourself to play this game and if you are a action game fan this is clearly a good pick as well.

One of the most impressive feats of programming happened in 1982 with the release of 1K ZX Chess for the ZX81 home computer. As its name suggests it's a full chess program running on just 1KB of RAM, which includes an AI opponent. In actuality it was even less at around 700 bytes. That's 700 bytes for rudimentary graphics, rule set and all the AI routines to play the game.

In regards to the Crash Bandicoot games on GBA, what makes the 3D sections even more impressive is that there isn't even an art style change when transitioning into those sections. They look artistically similar to the 2D sections of the levels. I do feel as though the first one did this better than N.Tranced, as in that game the entire level is chase perspective and you're just on top of the water or in space, but those ice levels in the first game handle this fantastically.
