Mary finds a train collection in a Santa Ana storage locker and brings it to Milepost 38 Toy Trains in Westminster, Orange County. Mary had some Bachmann HO & N gauge (not shown) and a Lionel Union Pacific 50th Anniversary Limited Passenger Set. We were able to test and appraise her set.

Yes, I was looking at the N-Scale set that was shown earlier and they edited the video/sound so the close up shot doesn't match the audio.

The producers simply didn't know anything about N vs HO scale trains, so it probably didn't occur to them that this was a glaring mistake (easily fixable with a different shot or a voiceover). Obviously, they didn't consult the expert (the fellow in the video) for review before they released it.

Nice Mile Post 38 that is the Train Shop I go to. I have a Christmas train that has grown to a lot of track with a lot of distance. That guy Matt has helped me before and is very good friendly and knowledgeable about model trains. Saw him this year when was buying buying some Rail King Rugged Pennsylvania passenger cars that I like alot. Went back and got an engine and another car that is of the same set. Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays if you are one of them. LOL Good either way.

Very cute episode. But the Bockman piece that guy was looking at was not N scale. It was HO scale. And it was a southern Pacific daylight locomotive. Probably worth about 100 bucks.

I actually work in a model train shop, as one of the employees who processes and lists used items, as our store buys collections from people. $1,200 for that UP set sounds right to me, considering it looked (nearly) new in box. As for the Bachmanns, i can speak from experience that they don't bring us much. The boxed steam engine they showed would prop go for $50 max assuming it's undamaged and fully functional. And yes, that old track is junk, as he said.

That 2-10-4 Texan is analog and they are not easy to convert to digital. Left/right split frame with no room to run wires. I've worked on two of them and they are nightmares. Its a book case piece.

At a flea market outside College Station, Texas around the end of 2019, I came across a 99% complete Bachmann N Scale Highballer train set featuring a Union Pacific F9 (some of the cars were missing their Rapido couplers). I got it for $10, and after some lubrication, it works (although rather noisy). The vendor didn't appear to be a train enthusiast and probably thought these were just toys. Basically, it also depends on who's selling them as well.

Lionel used to package their sets that way until the mid 1960s, because other brands of trains went to the flat box that allowed the engine and cars to be displayed to the buyer.
