Store Evacuation and $515 Self-Checkout at Walmart ║ Large Family Shop with Me │ Jan. 2019

In this video, Tom and I are going on our monthly date night / Walmart shopping trip. We ate at Old Chicago and then stopped by Home Depot to get some PVC pipe to make some rails for Hannah's new bottom bunk so we can use it for a crib. Then we were going to stop at Joann's to get some fabric for the rails, but the store had already closed. Thankfully, I was able to find some workable fabric at Walmart. While we were shopping at Walmart, we noticed the smell of gas while we were looking at some baskets. By the time we got to the fabric department, the smell was getting quite strong. Apparently, there was a gas leak and the store was evacuated. We waited in the van while the fire department came and checked everything out. Once they gave the all clear, we went back in and retrieved our cart and resumed shopping. As you can imagine, the employees were in a bit of chaos trying to deal with all of the abandoned carts and do a shift change at the same time. We had a hard time getting someone to cut fabric and then it was quite an ordeal for the lady to get a working scan gun to finish our fabric order. In all, about 90 minutes passed from when I first started looking at the fabric and when I walked away with the cut pieces. Not what I imagined would happen! We finished our shopping and then went to check out. It seems quite a few employees were "sick" and left during the evacuation and there was only one checkout clerk in the store. We had to check out our whole $515 worth of items in self-checkout. It all got done, though, and our 3 1/2 hours at Walmart came to an end. (I ordered about $400 worth of stuff on-line before our trip to the store to free up some cart space and mental space for some of the creative shopping I needed to do.) When we got home after midnight, most of the kids were still up waiting for us so they all pitched in to carry things in from the van.

Minute 25 when Solly sees Mommy...then Sophia.. they call out Mommy! This has encouraged me to smile and welcome and embrace my children when I get home and all i want to do is for them to get to bed, I will hug them and say hello instead, because of what you’ve taught me ANDREA. ❤️ Andrea, I lost it at minute 27. That music. It’s like she knew. These treasures. Ahh Grief from deep down. Andrea. Lord it’s not fair, But You give And take away Blessed be the name of the Lord. You know all things. And I trust You. Even though this hurts, so much. Praying for you guys. Tom I don’t know who you were saying sorry to about losing your patience there. Just have to say thank you for living your life as an example, admitting faults and doing your best. This verse made me think of her. Being in the medical field, I have watched some of the videos and do agree they missed something. Such a sweet soul, Andrea is. Keep up the good work dad. Your doing a awesome job. There are things we could have done differently in some situations. It’s still a loss. I deal with the loss of my son every day. So much I could have done differently. But nonetheless it still hurts. I stack my cart exactly like Tom! Every square inch of the cart is methodically used. I use an electric wheelchair so I cannot use2 carts my foot plates snug under the front low bar, so the chair takes full control of steering and pushing my cart. My service dog gets items off the lower shelves. My seat elevation assists me in reaching the upper shelves.

Curver brand baskets are the absolute best. Sadly here in Canada they are few and far between. Whenever I come upon them in a home store, I jump for joy & have an audience of onlookers wondering what the crazy lady is so happy about. Your self checkouts are so much better than ours in the UK! you literally have to scan one item at a time and it doesnt let you scan another until said item is in the bag because they count the weight of each item! so it literally takes ages just to scan like 10 items. and the whole way through it needs assistance because items are underweight or the price is wrong haha

When they first put in self-checkouts here, it was the same way. They constantly had errors that the weight didn't match and it took forever. Now that they've changed them, it much faster and easier.

I love self check out. I can organize what goes where in my house at the checkout. Once home my million kids runout to the us and I can tell them exactly where each bag goes...deep freezer,upright freezer, kitchen, fridge, pantry,etc.

Hannah is a beautiful baby with a gorgeous smile. She sure enjoyed sitting up in the shopping cart checking out the scenery! Walmart can tell you what they want - they would like nothing more than to have us all doing self check-out & our own bagging after spending hours shopping. Many in Canada refuse to do it as we are trying to save jobs. They will call another cashier for large orders. There are other employees working in the store who can also work as cashiers. I will say one things that you got to pack your bags exactly as you wanted them making it easier to unload & put away! Thanks again for sharing your family with us!
