The top 10 candies weren’t surprising, but the breakdown of the favorites by state offered some interesting results. For instance, Ohio’s favorite Halloween candy is Blow Pops. In Montana, it’s Dubble Bubble Gum; Georgia’s fav is Swedish Fish and Lemonheads for Louisiana. But none of these four candies made the top 10 for the nation. Here are those list toppers in order of popularity, least first, with morsels of their sweet-and not-so-sweet -origins mixed in.

The star on the wrapper getting you a free Tootsie Roll may not have been a real thing but a local corner store would honor it when kids came in and asked as he knew that we'd then proceed to lay out some "allowance" for other treats as well. This was back when Tootsie Rolls cost a few pennies or a nickel for two, BTW.

Wilbur is still around and well known to the people of Pennsylvania. The individually labeled Wilbur Chocolate candies are really just for promotional purposes, the real focus of the company is bulk orders of ingredient products for Cargill. BUT Wilbur Buds are still produced using the old recipe and remain far superior to Hershey Kisses (the dark chocolate ones are amazing) Source: I used to work for the company in Lititz PA

Yes that true. Honestly it applies to all candy stores in general. I used to run a candy store where we made our own sweets and we’d let our employees eat whatever they wanted. Doesn’t take long before you get sick of it

@M0onlightNymph well it was mainly because we wanted our employees to give honest opinions/recommendations to customers on what Candy they liked. But yeah I guess it reduces theft. The only real problem was when some employees would try to take a boat load of sweets home for a friend or as a bday gift for someone etc.

To me hating candy corn is a very internet culture thing. It's only the past few years I've ever heard anything bad about it and now that's all you hear about it. I've always thought of it as more a decorative thing than a candy people seek out but I never remember anybody saying it was gross either.

@@saltydog7038 Same! I’ve always known a few people who weren’t big fans of candy corn compared to all the other treats they get on/near Halloween but the I feel like the intense candy corn hatred & slander came out of left field. I always liked candy corn. Sure, it’s not engineered to be exceptionally hyperpalatable like more modern candies and has non-distinct old-fashion flavor but I always enjoyed it anyway. It’s a nice “palate cleanser” between all the chocolate i eat on Halloween and the season isn’t the same without them to me

Une summer when I was a kid and reeeeally bored, I counted the licks. It took 376 to reach the tootsie roll. Too remove the rest of he hard candy shell would have taken many more, so I believe the 2000 lick figure was based on complete removal. Once I reached the roll, I considered my job complete, crunched the rest, and moved on with the rest of my summer. 😉

We used to go trick or treating in my grandparent’s neighborhood, where my mom was raised. Almost all of the people were the same from when she was a child. When we got back, we’d have homemade treats like popcorn balls. Mom would then ask who gave them to us. If we answered correctly we could keep them. I’m actually tearing up thinking about not only those memories, but the loss society has experienced in such a short amount of time.

Three Musketeers bars were my favourite as a kid. Just between you, me, and the internet, however, I have a soft spot for those rock-hard molasses toffees in Generic Halloween Paper wrappers. Halloween candy sold in stores today seems a lot less varied today than in the 1960's. I remember peanut butter taffy wrapped in black and orange wax paper, and (gone forever) those black and orange pea-sized balls in square cellophane packets. The black ones were licorice, and the orange ones were orange-flavored. I also liked Red-Hots and Boston Baked Beans, and people actually used to hand out boxes of them and full-sized candy bars, too. I hated BB Bats, and knew a boy who loved them. We gladly traded my BB Bats for his chocolate candy. My seasonal candy of choice (from what little the stores offer today) is Snickers, Baby Ruths, Pay Days, peanut butter cups, or just plain Hershey bars. Even when I was little, I found candy corn and Harvest Mello-cremes pretty to look at - but too damned sweet!

The narrator does a great job but the previous one made it more engaging. Could we get him back please? Love the channel!

Reese's peanut butter cups, toosie pops and flavored toosie rolls have always been some of my favorite Halloween candy. US smarties are called rockets in Canada and they're my least favorite candy people hand out for Halloween. Canada has british smarties made by Nestlé, they're like m&ms but have a sweet candy shell and they're a popular Halloween candy alongside m&m's. We also have different chocolate bars, like Nestlé crunch (made by ferraro in the usa), Cadbury crunchie and Nestlé coffee crisp (sold only in Canada). Canada has better chocolate than the USA, because like European chocolate it has more cocoa and fat, making it creamier, less grainy and not as sweet compared to American chocolate. Happy Halloween everyone! 🎃👻😈 🧙‍♀️🐈‍⬛️🦇🐺🍬🍫🍭🍪
