. As a drummer myself , Winston stands out with a style that I cannot explain, but has a secret EXCITEMENT that comes blasting through. ! That penetrating sound of his snare drum just " Popping " out for emphasis, like All The Time....my favorite song being " Dignity" followed by. "All Along the Watchtower" from Unplugged Live. Dylan always has great drummers, which is Never mentioned II any articles or interviews, and Winston is at the top. Thanks , guys for bringing all this vibe to the waiting world.

@@michaelcelani8325The first time I ever saw Dylan was in October 1994 with Winston Watson on the drum kit. And Dylan did a version of Maggie's Farm that practically burned the house down, and it was Winston's drumming above all that made that number so exciting.

Excellent stuff - and a GREAT book. Wonderful, warm, engaging, well-researched. Part of my interest is due to Dylan being my favorite artist - in any medium. But it's the book's overall concept, and Ray's interviewing style, that set it apart. First, Dylan's bandmembers have traditionally been pretty mum about their experiences playing with and knowing Bob. So the anecdotes here are revelatory. Second, Ray's interview style helps the conversations to go deeper - he's always ready with a question or comment related to what was just said. You get a sense of that here. Bravo!

I’m not sure if it was John Fogerty or John Mellencamp, but one of them ran into Bob while out on tour, and Bob’s whole band, Winston included, were in the room right in earshot and whichever John it was said “I love your band Bob, but you oughta get rid of that drummer”. Winston relayed this in an interview I saw a couple of years ago.

@charlesking617, thanks. I couldn’t recall, but for some reason I was thinking it was one of those Johns. 🤔
