You make through holes in two bottle caps with a knife. Then you fasten them with tape. Screw a bottle with a cut bottom into the top cap. The funnel is ready.

Very good idea with the cup and the bored out lid! I just bought two bags of all purpose flour and planned on putting it into soda bottles. I have been using these to store food for over a year. I too am on a budget.

Oldtimmer great Idea for the wine bottles used for oil storage.I only cook with olive oil and have a lot of oil in storage but these oils are in plastic bottles thanks for the info.

I'm sure gallon water bottles would work. The funnel was made by gluing an old cup to a bottle cap and then drilling a hole through both. Since I didn't have a big enough drill bit I also used my dremel to make the hole bigger.

Great video. I use 3 liter Zephyrhills water bottles. You don't have to rinse them. Just let them dry for a day or two. Plus they stack on top of each other because of the shape of the bottom. They're great for storing ammo too. I'm storing rice, pinto beans, pasta, oatmeal, and Walmart brand Cheerios. I'd love to add wheat but I don't know anywhere that sells it. Any suggestions?

Thanks, My Walmart sells 25lb bags in the baking section next to the flour for around $13 Sams might have it as well but I haven't looked there

A FWIW.... I store sugar in 2 liter soda bottles because the plastic bottle can be cut off, if the sugar hardens for some reason. Once free of the soda bottle, a rasp or a hand held food grater can be used to remove sugar from the hardened lump, as needed. Wine bottles are a good way to store vinegar. Using new corks? If using metal caps, keep an eye on them, as they may rust over time.

Invisible Prepper I sterilize my bottles and my funnel before using with 91% isopropyl alcohol, which absorbs all water. A tiny amount of alcohol will remain in the bottle after dumping it out, but I place the cleaned bottles in my car on a summer day with the cap off and the heat evaporates the remaining moisture. Labeling is always a good idea. Period. A child, asked to bring a bottle of wheat from storage, may not know the visual difference between wheat and popcorn, for example. It is always best to record the date food is stored, especially for long term storage. What's the big deal about including the name of the product at the same time, the date is recorded? FWIW, I store "raw" long grain white rice and cooked/dehydrated "instant" long grain white rice. It would be very foolish of me not to label the versions of rice I have stored in clear soda bottles.
