Some of my favorite memories of chasing are the night storms, tucked up in a motel, outside on a patio watching night thunderstorms sweep across a town with lightning sparkling all around...rain on pavement, and just the "smell" of a thunderstorm in general....//

Regardless of what others say, tornadoes are an endlessly complex and deep natural phenomenom. Everyone's fascination with these monsters, from Ph.D experienced professional to the unsuspecting, unedeucated "person on the street, is fathomless and capable of, "tickling" us crazy--nuts! It's the most awesome entertainment there is! However, it's also the most-- necessary‐- science, there is: just see the tragedies from loved ones' deaths to suddenly destroyed life savings and dreams!!!! All levels of goverment, WASTE, endless sums of money on hiring more and more bureaucrats and wars, while tornado research, including the armies of chasers, scream out for more, so necessary, funds!!!! This is the first time I've watched your videos. "More power to you!". Tornado chasing is just such exciting fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an awesome day. I was positioned farther northeast near the warm front. I actually saw the McCook tornado from 27 miles away! Measured the straight-line distance on google maps. It's not as exciting to not be close, but hey it's a new distance record for me.

My furthest was a Tornado the southside of Aurora, CO that I saw from Bennet, CO. Almost 50 miles away!

Love this video! May 17th was our first plains chase so this is of particular interest. We had a nearly identical view of the tornado at 19:22 and I recognize that muddy goat path that led to Farnam. Thank you for putting this together!

I slept in McCook that night before, headed up to North Platte the next morning, and got too eager to intercept a fast mover slightly to the East.... spent the rest of the day trying to get towards McCook. And that's how I blew McCook. Still makes me feel like "Uggh!!"

This Tornado was Rated as an EF-2 by hitting a farm. Also Reed Timmer Pecos Hank and More Pi was there.

Lol is that difficult over there in the U.S here in Germany you only have two fronts with thunderstorm action, the coldfront and a convergence that are the only fronts that produce

Hallo! In the southern and midwestern US you can get tornadoes with far less “moving parts” but yes on the high plains where the photogenic stuff happens, the EML or “cap” is an important part, as well as the dry line and when it all works right like happened here, lots of “pretty” tornadoes, or very intense ones. Prost!

@@scienceoutthere Thank you for the answer, yeah here in Germany you have many Thunderstorm lines, a single supercell that moves hours is very rare. most of them are embedded and the tornadoes are mostly rain wrapped, its more like the dixie alley outbreaks here but with not that much twisters and the terrain is better. In most of the "Outbreaks" here the cap is very little.

So how did you predict that tornado near Dodge City Kansas exactly when the NOAA had lower probability in that area? Whar did they miss that you considered?

SPC was lower probability, but the NWS Dodge City forecast office was pretty bullish there would be tornadoes. I really wanted to go down there, the model guidance hinted some epicness that could happen and several chasers did in fact bite on it and scored big time. Perhaps the tornado of the year. I wasn't ballsy enough to go with that option. I've used that "south a long the dryline" option before and have been burned a few times.
