Can’t believe how many people were down there watching it! It was the bloke with the dog at the end that really got me, 😂 fair enough if you want to risk your own neck but that poor dog didn’t have much of a choice. As for anyone taking kids there.. well... just speechless. Still, as long as you can get the phone out and record it, hey! 🤦‍♂️

Not only are you putting yourself at risk from the waves and debris but you've got kids with you as well. Irresponsible is an understatement just to get all excited over a rough sea....

Whilst I get that a rough and very dangerous sea is exhilarating! Thank God no debris hit kids or animals. Respect for the sea is utmost!🌊🌊 not really the best role model putting their own kids in potential danger..? Just thankful that no one was hurt❤

Great footage. No thought for safety; the young child could easily have been lost to the power of these waves. TAKE CARE!!!!!!!

The salt water will ruin any soil and plants, not just damage vehicles and structures. In olden days warring armies wouid salt the fields of their enemies to destroy their food supply. So much damage, it's scary. I hope the climate change sceptics get a clue. All sorts of weather extremes rarely seen before. 😢

The pier is a family buisness that was already battered completely in a storm a few years ago, with most the rides taken off of the pier itself :(( I really hope they will be able to recover and keep running after this damage although I'm not sure

That is absolutely superb! Thanks for posting this. Incredible! Must have been amazing to have actually witnessed it! The power of nature never ceases to amaze me and it’s just air in motion! Not so sure about the lack of wisdom used by parking so close to the waters edge though at the end of the video. Won’t do your car any good that’s for sure! I’ve got a Rav 4 too. Fortunately, it’s under sealed!

I was down there on the Saturday evening, it was throwing up boulders the size of your television. Evokes memories of an occasion in the mid-to-late 1970s, I was 10-ish, it was a dark mid-evening and father parked the mk I Ford Escort estate containing myself and my sisters right on the edge of the sea wall up at the other end of the prom, near the outdoor swimming pool, during stormy seas. Not quite as stormy as this but stormy enough to make it a foolish stunt nonetheless. Waves crashing over the car. I thoroughly enjoyed it but my sisters were, understandably, having kittens - which was probably the silly old duffer's intention. He eventually saw sense and departed the scene before the scene departed us. The insurance company might not have paid out in such reckless circumstances.

@@StonecoldZigAustin - I was thinking of this as I was typing that but wary of blotting out the internet with my biblical sagas. Since you mention it ... I was returning (to Teignmouth) from Exeter by train, late afternoon / early evening on a Saturday. Not that I can commit specific days to memories but by deduction it would have to have been a Saturday for me to make that trip. Pre-dusk visibility was all-but-lost to waves crashing over the train carriages as we teetered slowly along the Dawlish stretch, stopping for a few minutes at several intervals. As you might imagine, a murmur of high-pitched female consternation in the air. I enjoyed it - not necessarily the screeching and wailing inside the carriage but the wild nature outside. Seems crazy now that they would continue operating so close to the cusp of inoperable conditions - as if driving slowly would evade the attention of the angry sea. They could have coughed up for a few taxis there and then and laid on some semblance of a bus replacement service thereafter.

Why are we drawn towards the one thing that can damage us? Thats not a few white horses, thats a stampede!! So good that you didn't put a dodgy sound track over it, the ferocity of the wind is music enough. Thanks for sharing.

Teignmouth is known to me. Where Dawlish will probably survive better than this. Teignmouth is much more vulnerable and less able to absorb the damage. Further back towards the town - it ought to be safer - even so! This is still unprecedented! It's going to be the case that the flower beds will not be restored. If the result is that if this weather is due to environmental damage - then it would be a waste of time and money to restore these.
